Aspartame is in diet coke too, it's in pretty much every soft drink that has sweeteners in. But yes, it's not a good think to have in your drink, if nothing else because it tastes like crap.

QFT. Although I'm a fan of Coke with Lime, which I haven't seen anywhere in some time. I roll my own now with a small bottle of lime juice.

QFT. If you take out the sugar and caffeine, what is the point of drinking Cola?

Bunch of drug addicted bigots! :|

The point, as I would have thought some of you might be able to surmise, is the taste. I stick to a reasonably strict diet (for non-weight reasons) and that includes avoiding sugar and caffeine as much as possible. So it's nice to have a soft drink available to me that I like.

As for decaf coffee, the majority of blind taste tests I've looked into have found that even experienced coffee tasters are frequently unable to discern between a well decafinated coffee and an undecaffinated coffee. Some people actually just enjoy the drink. If you're just after the caffeine with sugar why not just dump lots of pro plus and sugar in your gob?

/angry rant, at being looked at as a second class drinks person simply because he's not a drug addict, over

IMO, normal Coke tastes like crap anyway. The diet stuff is much more refreshing.

Yes, I agree. It is very hard to tell the difference between very good decaf, and very very very bad proper coffee.

Of course, because you've done blind taste tests no doubt? ****ing snobs. This post would have been just "FOAD" but it's got less chance of being deleted if I at least write words surrounding my hatred of all the snobbery.

I believed the ";)" would make my intended sarcasm clear. But apparently it was not.

One of the guys at work has the perfect solution when we all go down the pub...

    Coke + Double Southern Comfort

TBH it's not what i'd usually drink, but I had one a few weeks back and it's not bad at all...and its got alcoholic goodness, to make the loooooong walk home the more entertaining...

I drink DC like its out of fashion and have been doing so for years. Whats the point of having caffeine and sugar free?? For me its not only for the fact it tastes better, its because if I were to drink the same amount of fat coke as diet, I would indeed be fat and have no teeth.
However, I don't like Coke Lite which is found around the continent, its a much different taste. It really annoys me to go into a shop here and find Coke Lite on the shelves. Its not right. Goddam tight shop owners should buy the real GB stuff in....Have you noticed the cans and bottles now have a GB logo on them!
I did enjoy diet vanilla coke when it made it's brief appearance here too.
I can notice the taste differences in all cola varieties. I consider myself to be the Oz Clarke of colas.

ok dude ill take a pic of the side of the bottles with the ingrediaints and the nutrition table in australia they are identical

Ohh and found this on the net to

Hot on the heels of Diet Coke With Splenda comes Coca-Cola Zero. Coke Zero is sweetened with aspartame and acesulfame potassium (ace-k) and has zero calories. The only chemical difference between Coke Zero and Diet Coke is that Coke Zero has about half the aspartame but has more ace-k.

Confused anyone? It's a marketing thing - Coke have manufactured a "diet" coke without using the word diet... which in their eyes will appeal to a different demographic.

Nope, they have different recipes. Not just the Ace K/Aspartame ratio's. Check the intarwebz for a full story on the important and entertaining differences between the two.

    /goes to collect coca-cola paycheck
