Ok, i need an lcd/vfd/blah display with the option to change the backlight colour between two colours (in software rather than hardware), has to be useable under *nix systems and should be drive bay mountable. Doesn't need to have any controls attached! Help!
Welcome to the boards I dabbled with variable colour LCD backlight's a long time ago - if you get a display which is lit by side-mounted LED (such as matrix orbital's 122x32 normal sized graphic) then you can replace the LED with a high brightness bi-colour one, you'd just need to hook the LED up to the display's GPO's to change the colour in software then You'd probably have to write your own software for the display in Unix though, I don't think there's much existing support. Rob. p.s. http://www.matrixorbital.com/pages/product_view.asp?CatID=3&ProductID=26 this is just an example, you can buy other displays which are side LED lit
It really needs to be something off the shelf since it's for a work project, basicly im after a dual backlight display for errors, so when everythings hunky dory the backlight is green and when somethings gone titsup.com it goes red*. * idea blatently stolen from brother printer
