well i wasn't going to post this till it was done but seeing as how i was soldering till 2am in the morning the night before i left to go back to college and still did not get it all soldered and i can't solder here at college (stupid fire codes) i'm posting it now.

this project had/has a purpose. i wanted something to power my breadboard so i could prototype another project. it was inspired by another project like this but it had a lcd meter on the varaible out. (mine whould have to if i hadn't borked it).

Not a bad job you've done there :) Shame things arnt a little more level/square but then Im a stickler for things being aligned.

Quick note to modsquad, when quoting someone please only quote the useful bits. Seeing all the pics being reposted in the SAME thread makes it a little unreadable. Thanks :D

You've done a really good job of it :thumb:
I'm hoping to make an external PSU for powering some cathodes and this is pretty inspirational!

Would you mind editing your post so you don't quote all the pictures again? It clutters things up a little ;)

no i do plan on pluging the holes and staining and varnishing it.. once i get the wiring done that is. that way i won't kill the finish eather by accident with the soldering iron or by scraching it..

    modsquad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ditch the pics!!!!!!!..:naughty:

whay to you mean level?? what do tou mean square?? the box is square (all angles are 90 degree) but the box is soposed to be a rect. and level is a debatable subject :D :naughty: :naughty:

Nice one, ive seen full project development setups built before now, but they all seem a bit too big. Nice compact and tbh the perfect size to just plop on a bench ready for you to start testing.

A useful project nicely done :)

I did a similar thing with a 550W generic PSU, it doesnt look no-where near as good as yous, i glued the PSU to a plank, and used copper pipe pushed through the plank to connect croc clips to, works great but yours is a much better design :thumb:

I meant the switches/switch legends on the front of the PSU, there not level with each other or the edges. Also the knob could have done with moving up and right a bit. It just makes it a little more pleasing to the eye IMHO. Maybe you should have used 80mm fan grills instead of 92mm ones. Good woodworking thou, wish I had the skill/tools to woodwork :thumb:

ok no excused for the switches.

the knob is where it is becouse i still may but the lcd volt display thing in the upper right hand corner.

i ordered 80mm but the darn place sent 92mm. and sent 3 when i ordered 2.. o well what do you want for $.49 cent items..

Ahh I understand the placement of the knob now. Have you tried opening up the holes for the switches a little ? Since you've got large bezels you could open up the holes and then try and get them in line a little better.

Shame on the fan grill thou, I have used a 92mm grill before on a 80mm fan, all I did was rotate the grill about 22 degrees . I think thats right, so its like this -> + x <- if you get what I mean :)

Yes, and it also wastes his bandiwidth. Also, whats with you and underscores? :eyebrow:

And woodshop--are they that smart that they know when your soldering inside? Why not just solder outside? Just pretend your having a smoke if they say anything :hehe:

it's a good idea thats why i thought of it allready..
it's not as easy as yout think though.. the screens in the windows are not removable.. and finding an outlet out side is impossable.. so unless i take the cover plat off of a lamp post and install an outlet. (which i don't think campous security would like to much) i don't think it'll happen... + there is still snow on the ground.

i could solder in my car with an inverter but sitting in a parking lot half out of a car with a soldering gun wouldn't look to good to campous security eather.
