hi i have a p166 laptop running windows 98se & i was wondering if there is any free software out there that will let it play VCD's no dvix or anything liek that just a video cd cheers for nay help lads
windows media player does not play video cd's as far as i know. the reason im asking is from looking @ the video cd's nero makes the video files are not stored in a way for the pc to read them apart from these all singing all dancing dvdplayback software but as its only a p166 laptop that is overkill
i use to watch old hong kong vcd on my old 166 years back using media player. i just opened the data file in the mpeg folder and open it with media player. hope that helps
With all the VCDs I have used, Ron is correct. WiMP won't play them automatically like it would a DVD, but they can still be played. Here are full instructions: Open Windows Media Player (6.4 or later) File, Open Browse to your CD drive the VCD is in. Open the folder MPEGAV Make sure you can see ALL files (*.*) Then open the file AVSEQ01.DAT Your movie should now play. P.S. The AVSEQ01.DAT file is just an MPEG-1 format movie renamed to a .DAT, you can copy it to your hard drive and change it back to a .MPG if you so wished.
its ok, i had the idea of playing vcd's of my favourite comedys (monty python, futurama, family guy etc) that i downloaded off kazaa (i dont see anything wrong with it, once the program has been played & there not showing the series nothing wrong with getting them for an archive but they plaed although the video was tiny & full screened very very pixalated & very long gaps before the picture refreshed so i will just use the dvd player in my room to play them ah well my dreams of sitting in the sun watching the dead parrot is dead in the water
