Hey guys I thought you might want to check out my latest mod. I bought one of those huge VFD from http://www.bgmicro.com/ for $20. The VFD unit measures 7.75"x2.58"x1". The VFD box consist of an 8x6x3 project box, headphone jack/plug, on/off switch all from Radio Shack and of course the VFD. Here is a picture of the front of my VFD box... Here is a picture of the headphone connector in the back of the VFD box... Here is a picture of the on/off switch...
Oooo nice, try adding a filter - I think it would make it look a lot sweeter Looks good tho - got any pics with the VFD running?
Ohh yea and im very seriosly thinking of ordering one of these babys, and i live in UK. I worked out that in total it would come to £33 (including express delivery to UK) I know its too big for the front of a case, but im thinking of mounting it in the side, il post pics when i get it & a new camera
I ordered one and it didn't work when I hooked it up. I think I did it correctly, but obviously not. Can you email me a schematic or pin connection chart? I'm cmosurfer@hotmail.com.
viridius, I could email you the schematic or pin connection chart but this link would probably be better. Here you go!. It's a long thread but it will answer any of your question that you may have.
I guess I am going to post some pictures showing the VFD running to get some positive feedback. Well actually it is running it's just I used a friends camera and it's not showing up because of the flash. I am looking into getting a blue filter so that it looks sweeter. Anyone know where I can get some from? Oh and it's not that tall. But I like the double decker idea. I might have some use for that second VFD after all. I was just going to keep it as a backup. You just incase something happen my main VFD.
I visited Radio Shack and Brookstone at the mall this weekend, and both are pushing these new programmable displays for your desk. Both cost around $30. Primary use they are advertising is a digital name plate of an executive. They have an interesting idea, but theirs doesn't interface with the computer, so just an idea for all those modding buisness execs.
