whats the difference, except for the ovbious?

are VFD's better than LCD's or the other way round, and why the price difference?

if you had a choice which would you go for?

    ---------------------------------------------
totally unrelated, does anyone know the code of a transistor that can handle enough current for most fans?

i wanna have fan control via 555 chips on PCB's, and var. resistors... but i need to know transistor code :(....

??? The VFD's I've seen have always been way more expensive than LCD's. Especially if you're talking seriel ones, just go to Matrix Orbital and see! If you want a clear example of what the difference between them, just look around. Alarm clocks and digital watches are a good example of typical LCD's, while a lot of newer car stereo's use VFD's.

    What?

VFd's are nearly twice the price of LCD's.

They work well over large temp diffs and update v.quickly and IMO look funky - though some really nice MO lcd's look as good...

    Cheers,

    r.

vfds from MO seem a lot more expensive than an equivalent LCD.... dunno.... I'm hoping to setup a CF LCD sometime this week (maybe tomorrow if I go to Radio Shack)

Yes they are - and you can make them any colour you want by dropping a plastic filter in front of it. Unfiltered they give off an intense light green / blue light.

    nope :(

    r.

p.s. don't think it would be easy to read if you did... the dots are so bright that the small amount fo black in the text would get smothered out a bit I think...

another advantage over LCD's is that you can make them any color you want with the proper sheet

Ok then, look at it this way... £40 is only a couple of kilograms of stilton, so just give up the cheese for a week. Easy.
