I have a project in mind that may or may not get done sometime in my lifetime. I don't want to spoil it as I am planning a work log.
    :dremel:

Part of the project involves extending the VGA out on my vid card about 6 inches(maybe less).
It is also going to be cramed into a tight spot so I don't want a 6 foot cable in there.
Should I A) make my own cable
or B) get an extension cable and cut it down?

I'm also going to be extending audio and a few other mobo ports.
Any help or advise would be great.

feel safe unsoldering the ports from your mobo? this is in a case right? you could unsolder the ports and solder in some lengths of wire

I'm trying to be modular so that I can use any mobo/GFX i want.
It will be coming from a Vid card not onboard vid.

I'm building/modifying a case to house it and it just needs to be a few inches back from the sidewall.
It has got to look sleek, you know.

    God bless Google!!

Heres something: 8 inch VGA spliterPart number: 10H1-27708 (3rd one from bottom)

    Heres a closup: Close up...

Its a spliter, but you could just leave the other end unhooked, or jsut cut it off!

[edit]More google goodness: Custom VGA Cable
Real pricey tho, and you'd only be able to get a 1 foot length, but then youd have some play room.

    Thanks Green Soda.
Yeah, I searched google, but not very well it seems.
That custom cable seems almost exactly what I need.
bit too pricey for me though.

Would it be OK to just get the proper connectors and make my own?
It shouldn't be that difficult to solder.
Or would it be easier to just buy the shortest extension cable I can find and cut it down?
Anyone know if they keep the color coding in those cables so I can just attatch red to red and so on?

Oh and that splitter would work but I'm trying to be as clean as possible on the wireing.
I'll probably get one as a back-up plan.

I dont think they keep a standard i those. I know I've used a couple printer cables for wiring LCDs and they all had different colors

I'm just going to buy components from Radio $hack or somewhere and make it myself.
It'll give me some soldering experience.

I assume extending audio won't be as difficult as each plug is just two wires.
