News Via Develops Twin-Core Processor

Well, it's what all the cool kids are doing, right? So it was only a matter of time before VIA joined in, eh? And they may even get there before the big boys as well, according to PCWorld:

In a move that could upstage the dual-core processor plans of Advanced Micro Devices and Intel, Via Technologies is developing a twin-core x86 processor that is likely to hit the market by June 2005.

A launch in June would give Via a shot at being the first company to introduce an x86 processor with two cores.

"We're pretty confident we'll have something by the end of Q2 next year," said Richard Brown, Via's associate vice president of marketing, in Taipei.

I like VIA, because they're so far behind AMD and Intel they really put thought into what they do.

(someone has to stick up for them!)

 

They are definitely far behind. But they do have their own niche in the market with the tiny system fans.

 

I like the epia line it is small and can go in just about any mod with twin cores it may make just as powerful as a 1.5ghz athlon(the C3 is about as fast as a P3 600 while it runs at 1ghz so maybe next core will have even better preformance Up to par of a older athlon or P3) and they will not need to clock down because there chip only output about 12 watts or less of heat making it more viable for a media PC dual 64bit via cores

 

I saw a thread the other day that went along the lines of

"OMG!!!111eleven 2x4ghz = 8ghz OMG ROFFLECOPTER teh UbEr P4!!!!111"

Cleaver marketing move.
