    Hi all,

I am trying to get my system running as best I can, and am completely stunped with regard to the VIA Hyperion Drivers...

I have read a bit about them, but cannot tell whether they will actually bring any benefit to my system.

Could someone point me in the direction of where I can find out exactly what they do, and what benefits they will bring to my system?

    Cheers,

    Javen

If your motherboard has VIA chipsets, then you need the Hyperion drivers in order to get your board working properly. If you don't have a VIA chipset, tehn do not install the Hyperion driver, as it'll minger up your install real nicely.

    I have a VIA board :(

Will it feck things up if I just leave out the AGP drivers?

I'm curious to know why you are so afraid of the drivers. They are very well built drivers and really help.

The only time you should not install one is if you've got a mixed board, in which case you need to get the drivers from your motherboard manufacturer.

Like for example, my board, an ABit KG7-RAID is a mixed chipset, it uses VIA for the southbridge, but my northbridge is an AMD chip. So I install the VIA drivers, except I leave out the AGP drivers, then I install the AMD AGP port drivers that I got from AMD.

    Simple as that.

    see thread http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?threadid=39512&goto=newpost]here[/URL].

The AGP drivers could be/might be one of things that is causing my AGP card to crash and lock.

If this is the case then I wish to do everything in my power to prevent this from happenning, hence not installing the drivers.

However, there are a few issues which could also be the cause of the locks, which has been discussed in the other thread.

I am desperate and frustrated, and want to fix my PC... hence the investigation of whether I catually need the Hyperions, or whether they are just a potentail method of performance increase.

    What motherboard do you have?

Are you sure it's VIA only? If it isn't, then installing teh VIA AGP drivers would knacker it up.

    :eyebrow:

And no, you don't need them if Windows/Linux can detect your chipset okay, however, you'll ahve about as much graphic performance as an onboard 1MB Trident. :hehe:

well, its funny you should mention it...depending on your board, you do/do not need them...

if it has a via chipset, then yes...but i found with mine, that you do not NEED them, so if it is crashing try running without and see what happens, i have run my pc for 2 weeks happily before installing them...

also with the latest ones, i found that my pc would no longer shut down properly, but i attributed this to having such a weird system, and this getting a bit more messed up thanks to windoze, so now im back to older version and it works fine, so it could be the version too, worth trying out...

Cheers for all the feedback ppl...

I am currently running with DX9.0b, Cat 3.7s, and everything but the AGP from the latest Hyperions.

So far it seems to be charging along, and I'm reporting the best Benchmarks I've ever had, with none of the slow-downs/locks!

I love it when a plan comes together!
