I'm looking to replace my very old, but faithful Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB AGP8x card, and was looking at either the newer (but still not newest technology) Radeon X800GTO Series or the X1600 series of AGP8x cards. Basically I want something that will give me a slight boost in performance (I don't need anything huge, all I play is Wolf:ET, CS:CZ, and B&W 1&2), and that'll replace my 9600XT. Looking for 256MB, AGP8x, and wasn't sure what sort of performance difference 256bit v 128bit memory interfaces made. I figure 256MB, 12 pipeline, AGP8x card, but that's the only thing I'm not really sure on. And before anyone even bothers to recommend getting "the newest and greatest thing out there" or "upgrading to pci-e", I'm not upgrading my whole system, just video.
Your probably better off with a X1600 as it fully supports AA+HDR and Shader model 3 support vs the X800 which only has Shader Model 2. -Fr4nk
i prefer ati cards for their simple reliability, and that i'd rather not have to reinstall drivers too much... its a pain in the butt.... also, that way i don't have 4 different media suites running on my pc... i just install mmc and it includes tv card etc...
