I hate it when I try to find reviews for a product before I buy it and the only things that turn up are these unboxing videos pretending to be “video reviews”. It's always the same. First the obligatory breathing in the camera mic “yeah umm, so I bought this”. Then they read the ‘features’ on the box, filming it horribly out of focus, fumble clumsily with a box cutter, try and open it using just one hand (because the other's holding the camera) pull it out of its box/cover, look at it for 20 seconds and that's it. They don't even bother plugging it in. “Yeah uhh, I really like it, amazing product, 4/5” *vid stops* Normally I always try to find written reviews, in videos there's never any time for thorough analysis plus I often get annoyed by the reviewers voice.
Yea he does overviews - that's the word. He's got the gift of being a natural presenter AND technically aware of what people want to know. Like all things not all presenters are good reviewers and visa-versa.
What I do like about Linus is that he "genuinely" knows his stuff. He knows what makes a good build, and does concentrate heavily on things like packing and build quality, ergonomics and all. Quite a few of the others overlook that kind of stuff.
+1 like for Linus, discovered his channel a couple of months ago and have been watching regularly since. He's the only YouTube reviewer that I watch regularly. He's quite like Larry Kosilla of Ammo NYC - not only does he know what he's talking about, he presents it in a very watchable, no-nonsense way. The Chemical Guys channel is a great showcase of their products and the techniques for using them, but they look and feel so fake because frankly, Greg tries way too hard in every video. It's the same thing with hardware reviews, there's a knack to doing a review/product showcase in a natural, unforced way and Linus can do just that.
Ugh. This. The only thing you're missing is the cheap Windows Movie Maker intro sequence. It's all about branding, folks! How else will anyone watch your useless and unhelpful unboxing videos, or all 80 episodes of your let's play?
He has a point. It is a great, great place to troll. My cousin wrote the best one I've yet heard of, I was proud as balls. On a Tekkit video: The amount of hate comments he received was truly Biblical (if the Bible had had a story about hate comments).
