I've owned ferrets before, and can vouch that this is 100% true to life*

Ferrets are awesome, they're the Tonka toy of pets and for some reason appear to be obsessed with stealing beer if they can possibly find a way.

 

It's the smell that really gets me though. Don't get me wrong, they're wonderful, intelligent, heart-warming companions, but they do smell quite rather badly (even once you get them descented).

 

the females arent too bad if you have their scent glands removed and bath them regularly. "not too bad" as in most visitors didnt know we had a ferret until they saw her. you can still smell them up close for sure.

 

The four I took care of off and on for about a year (two male, two female) were rather dire to be honest, despite them being descented and getting their weekly bathing. I don't doubt that with sufficient quantities of pure hydrogen peroxide sitting about the house there wouldn't be much smell, but it just constantly drove me crazy no matter what I did. Though well worth it for the interaction with them little scamps!
