    Please elaborate, what better (anime) films, studios are there? I'm really interested. I've always found Ghibli animation impeccable and the atmosphere spot on.

    its not films as such but more direction, Miyazaki has always had pacing problems imo and whilst his worlds are colourful with no immediately discernible and apparent menace in his stories they just feel flat when compared to Kazuhiro Furuhashi's work in Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen or Takeshi Koike's REDLINE.
