It peaks just as the last book gets tossed and then goes downhill from there.

Gives nothing away, because Abrams has nothing to say to begin with.

I hope this film turns out to be good, I really do, but JJ Abrams and another gimmicky Lightsaber variant don't fill me with hope...

Lightsaber with a functional cross-guard isn't all that gimmicky- neither was the lightsaber staff weapon; you need to think of them in terms of being conventional weapons, rather than lazer swords.

Could be worse, imagine Lightsaber Nun-chucks. The football droid was kinda funny, but then, so was R2D2 at the start- little trashcan robot scuttling around...

I do hope JJ doesn't screw it up like Startrek though....

    Functional?
https://i.imgur.com/q1jJuy5.jpg See, they are metal at the base, meaning, if your opponent slides their light saber along your light saber, it'll just cut right through the metal and into your hand.
Also, swing that **** a bit with your wrist and it'll just cut your own hand off.
    Functional, right.

As Cail said, the lightsaber could just go through the metal part, but as we all know this is scifi. Insert new metal thingy-ma-whatsit. (vibroblade)

That it was, i couldn't decide whether it was a small robot with a footballesque design, or a smaller robot riding a football.

I was ok with ST, didn't think it really fit with the rest of the films/series, but enjoyed it in it's own self contained bubble.

My assumption would be that the metal sections on the guard are covering up a section of lightsaber. The guard, in this context, isn't to stop a saber sliding down the blade and across the grip, it's to stop the user being harmed by the smaller saber sections at the top of the grip.

Alright, the cross guard is supposed to be functional- the metal bits are indeed there to stop you chopping you own fingers off if your hand slides up the grip. The intention however is perfectly clear, it's meant to look like a traditional arming sword, as opposed to more like a katana ( sabers have backwards curving blades- damn you Alec Guinness... ).

Football droid is two hemispheres with a split down the middle ( acting as two wheels ), the head piece sticking up above them and joined in the middle to what would be a central axis/axle.

Still gonna reserve judgement, cautiously optimistic but enjoyed the trailer.

Umh, how does one "lose" when pointing out some possible flaws, and you only posted someone else's opinion.
Also, how does pointing out possible flaws make someone a noob?

You're not a very bright fella now are you.

You obviously didn't watch the whole video, and nor did you apply any logic or reason to your own reasoning- I shall now finish destroying your argument:

    1) lightsaber-proof metals exist in the StarWars universe, this is fact, not opinion, and the metal parts of the cross-guard could be made from them; this would be reasonable and logical to assume as pointed out in the video.

    2) any skilled swordsman can wield a sword with a cross guard without stabbing or hitting themselves with it, regardless of being metal or a laser beam. This is also fact, not opinion, otherwise swords with cross guards would not be very popular historically. And Jedi/Sith are indeed skilled with their weapons...

Should I continue, no? Okay then. The noob part comes from hyperbole ;)

    In other news, multicopters Cheesecake:
