Regarding Teen Driving, biggest problem with driving as far as I'm concerned is that for some people (not just teenagers) the act of driving is often about third or fourth on the list of current tasks that they are doing whilst behind the wheel and actually on the road.

 

I don't get it how hard it is to drive without a F*CKING PHONE! If I get phone-call or message, I'll just ignore it or pull off the road before I answer it.

I am even ok if people race their cars, then they are at least focusing on the driving. Drivers who browse their facebook while driving... They ****ing suck in life and should be shot to dead or something before they hit head to head with someone.

 

I don't understand why new cars aren't fitted with mobile phone jammers so calls can't be made or received unless the handbrake is applied, likewise no reception would mean internet browsing or instant messaging either.

Considering it's illegal to drive and use a mobile ( hands-free kit be-damned, it's just as distracting ), you'd think that system would have been implemented already, years ago...

 

I would hazard a guess that jamming phones would also jam gps

 

GPS is for wimps; read the damn road signs like we used to do for decades before hand just fine...

 

And would be pretty bad for cars like Tesla's, as firmware updates for the cars are delivered over in-built 3G.

I agree that operating your phone when you're driving - even a "hands free" kit - is a stupid idea, but there are plenty of things that can be just as distracting as a phone call:

• Eating/Drinking
• Smoking
• Adjusting the radio/stereo
• Passengers
• Children
• Other drivers making dangerous/unexpected manoeuvres

We don't need to ban more things we need better driver education. People forget that they're in control of steel death boxes capable of travelling at frightening velocities. When you're travelling at 70mph you're moving at 31 meters per second: the distance you travel every second is the equivalent of three average-sized houses stacked on top of each other. Even 40mph is a hair under 18 meters per second.

And if I couldn't use my phone while you were giving me a lift then I'd stop getting a lift with you pretty damn soon!

 

The principle is tried and tested, in theory it could be awesome, but the trailer looks very meh at best...
