This video’s been out a while but it’s fascinating stuff. The engineering in this design is absolutely mind blowing.

Manley the Magnificent did another good video on it, very cool tech. I think it's similar in step-change as implementing HCCI in internal combustion.

I'm in! But cautiously, as you say. Prometheus was dull, even if it did have Kenny Fkg Powers in it.

Some madlad has uploaded season 10 of Scrapheap Challenge to YouTube, so I've been working my way through that. Peak "Scrapheap Challenge" era IMO, still has Robert Llewellyn and Lisa-whatshername-from-Cardiff presenting - long before it started to go a bit.. American...

The skits are cheesy af, half the stuff they build is so janky it doesn't even survive the first minute, and yes, of course they seed the bloody scrap yard with working stuff... but I love it.

Full playlist link - it's not in order though, you'll have to manually find the next one, here's episode 1 to get you started:

EDIT: Boo, embedding disabled, you'll have to click through.

This bridge is apparently a bit of a hotspot for being hit by trucks that are too tall to pass under it. It happens so often that the railway company had to install a large steel beam to protect the bridge from damage. Despite a big warning sign telling truck drivers that they are over the height limit, truck drives continue to smash into it.

So some guy set up a camera to film truck drivers ripping the roof off their truck and put it on YouTube.

Things like this are what the internet was made for.

Edit as i have seen the external site block. This is the Tankfest 2024 video about the restoration of the FV4005 running around the arena with its comically large 183mm gun

Fantastic documentary from NoClip about Wipeout.

At the time I was at least 5 years too young to appreciate the “club scene” cultural zeitgeist that the original tapped into. By the time I was old enough to enjoy going out, getting hammered, and possibly even “expanding my mind” in “other ways” (I admit nothing), I was well into metal and didn’t want much to do with dance music. Older me is a little wiser however (and unashamedly enjoys dance/EDM quite a lot), and the impact these games had is very hard to understate.

Wow, that takes me back, will have to give it a watch.

Reminds me of back in the days of house shares and my mate had a Playstation. It was Wipeout and Tomb Raider when not competing with one another.

I mean I was better at it of course

But yeah it was the times of clubs and big nights too. Damn, different life.
