The times I do get dragged around shipping centres are unfortunately less interesting.

I'd go more often if there were choirs and fight sequences.

Well, they’ve got people from SG-1, Atlantis, and the original film on board. It gives me hope that it will at least feel like Stargate. Universe put a lot of people off because it didn’t feel like a Stargate show, but once it’d had a chance to find its feet, it had a hell of a lot of promise. And I very much appreciate the fact that they’re committing to being open with fans - very pleased to see that the “official” announcement was made on the Gateworld YouTube channel. GateWorld has been around since 1999, it’s got to be one of the oldest fan sites that’s still active.

Ah hell, that’s how I’m going to get massively distracted today, isn’t it - going down a huge Stargate rabbit-hole…

Everyone knows that the correct number of times to watch the entire Stargate franchise is n+1 - there’s always time for “just one more”

    I've converted Sprog2 - he's been through SG1 & Atlantis and has started on SGU. He's also working through ST:NG and DS9.

For the record, I liked SGU.

I see a time sink here! I've seen a bit of SG-1 having enjoyed the original film, but have not seen any Atlantis or SGU.

Just realised that I have a Stargate featured camera in my collection. I have a green Nikonos V underwater camera that can be seen when the team emerge from the gate into the desert.
I completely forgot that it was in the film have only recently (been collecting for 40 years!) acquired a green one, as I already had the more common black & orange version.

Despite my excitement, I was almost "nah, man, just leave it the **** alone and don't mess with it's legacy". This is mainly because we won't be getting the 20+ episode seasons and the arc building that commitment accommodates. Those days are over - the confidence and investment isn't there anymore, I don't want 8-10 ep seasons for this subject matter.

I still want more Stargate and I'm excited by the prospect, but I'm worried it might be... weak tea.

Also, I thought Joe Flanigan bought the rights to Stargate? Is he involved in this somewhere or were those rights he owned very specific?

It felt a bit weird at first, but I swiftly came to enjoy the change of direction, and it did start to feel more like Stargate as time went on.

It was only much later that I watched the Battlestar Galactica reboot and came to understand many of the criticisms that were levelled towards SGU at the time.

This wasn’t something I was aware of until about 15 minutes ago. He and a group of investors tried to buy the rights to Stargate in order to do one more season of Atlantis. They apparently had a verbal agreement with an MGM head honcho, but nothing could be committed to paper because MGM was swirling its way down the financial crapper at the time. Nothing else ever came of it, and eventually what remained of MGM was swallowed by Bezos’ behemoth (The Bezomoth…? The Bezehemoth…? Nah, can’t quite make it fit  )

I love the film, and I think SG-1 is perfect TV (although definitely it fell off when it becasme Farscape mk2); Atlantis i enjoyed in my first watch, but didnt complete it (left uni and it weasnrt easily "available"); and SGU i havent manage to watch, as finding a copy is rather difficult.

SG-1 is what the wife (then girlfriend) and I effectiecvly bonded over at uni - the number of times we've watched it beginning to end i have lost count :D

Did try and rewatch/complete Atlantis, with the wife, but she just didnt enjoy it so stopped, and rewatching series 1 it struggles to find its feet.

Will just have to give it a go on my own!
