Hi, new guy so please go easy

I bought a MESH PC (Titan X-Fi) in February last year. It came with a Viewsonic VX924 19" monitor. The tower has a 2 yr onsite warranty but alas the monitors warranty was only for one year and that year has passed. The problem I've been having is that the monitor has been consistenly losing signal. It will runf fine for a while sometimes and then just go to stand by mode randomly. Its really infuriating (especially when on a raid in WoW) and has got worse and worse over time. I have had a MESH engineer out twice to check it and install a new GFX Card (GeForce 7800GTX) and RAM. A different engineer also ran the monitor thru his lappy and it worked fine. The PC worked fine for a few days after getting its new parts but then the problem returned with a vengeance.

The PC is currently with MESH who have basically pulled it apart, put it back together again and said it works fine on their monitors :wallbash:.

What I'm thinking now is that when the engineer ran the monitor thru his lappy he used the VGA socket instead of the DVI one which I have been using. Could it be that the DVI sockets on the monitor are the source of the problem? (I've tried 2 DVI leads).

I'm at a loss as to what else it could be to be honest. Its really annoying and just gets worse and worse (sometime I can get a signal back if I wiggle the wire that goes into the back of the GFX Card but obv. this isnt an ideal practice).

Any advice would be great and much appreciated. Has the VX924 got a history of this perhaps?

I dont mind buying a new monitor as long as I know that is what the problem is, I just want and end to the nightmare.

    Thanks in advance

Could be the monitor, they should check the monitor though.

Sounds like the DVI socket on the monitor - shame the engineer didn't test it when he was out.

Thanks for the responses chaps. Seems it IS the socket then. I had another look last night and the other socket on the monitor is a smaller, blue socket with D-Sub written underneath. Would I be able to get an adaptor to connect this socket to a DVI cable which would be connected at the other end to my GFX Card. From Maplins or somewhere similar? Lol, I also got the model number of the monitor wrong, its actually the VX922 not 924!

    Thanks in advance.

Most graphics cards have two outputs DVI (white connector) & VGA (DSub - blue connector),

DVI is the newer type of the two & sends the video signal digitally. This is what you have been using.

All you need is a VGA lead like this one. clicky to replace the DVI one. However, almost every monitor I have purchased for people (like 200+) have included a VGA lead. Isn't there on in your monitor box?

Thanks for the swift reply AND link. However, the GFX Card only has 2 DVI sockets, no VGA. Can I get a lead for this (1 end DVI, 1 end VGA), or would an adaptor be needed?

I did check all my leads but and I had a spare DVI only leads, but no VGA lead. Probably coz the GFX Card doesnt have a VGA socket I imagine.

    Thanks again

    EDIT: I've found this:

    http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/DVI-VGA.html

Reckon this should do the trick?

ViewSonic VX-series LCDs have a 2 year Return-to-Base parts and labour warranty so you should still be covered, give them a ring on 0207 921 2200.

Ta. The first link looks like what I need. I did notice that one of the people who had commented said it wont convert digi signal to analogue signal. WIll this mean I wont get a picture or that it just wont be as good? Sorry for all the questions, my noobishess is shameful! Hehe.

Thanks for that. Mesh told me it was a 1 yr warranty on the monitor but in retrospect theres plenty of stuff theyve told me that I shouldve taken with a pinch of salt. Just rung Viewsonic and they said to ring back with the model number tomorrow (at work atm) but they agreed and said that as I purchased the PC on 7/2/06 then it should still be under warranty. Hope so.

Update: Just confirmed with Viewsonic that I am actually covered. Described the problem and they said they would replace it! They dont have any in stock right now but will ring next week and let me know when ones going to be sent out. Very pleased with that.

    Thanks for all advice received.
