Hey guys..having trouble tracking down UK suppliers of Vinyl Dye. Tried local auto store, but besides that I've had no luck. Can anyone recommend?

They sell it at http://www.usauto.co.uk/ I ordered a can and it came nice and quickly, so I'd recommend them :)

Look for Penetrating Colour Dye on their Products list.

I agree... this stuff rocks, and is not vinyl PAINT like the Halford's poo... it really does dye the plastic... i used it to paint the swiveling base of my monitor.. you know, the bit that is designed to get scratched to **** when you adjust it? It really does dye the plastic... not just paint it.

Ordered Monday at 2pm, arrived Tuesday at 9am.

Thank you! I am unimaginably happy - went to a car shop, theyd never heard of it. I didn't think I'd ever find it! Cheers!

Being a vinyl dye topic... Is it true that one should wear a respirator when using it?

Yes, it's pretty nasty stuff. You should wear a respirator when spraying anything for that matter.

Check your local autoparts store like Pep Boys or Advance auto. Plastikote has what I consider the best but the colors are limited. You can even find it at Walmart in the automotive section. An alternative is Krylon's Fusion paint which works really good on plastic as well and has a lot more colors, you can get that at walmart as well, usually in the paint section with the other spray paints.

Is it absolutely necessary? Outside, in the garden, with gale force winds..I highly doubt respirators come cheap.

Well, those aren't prime spraying conditions but it's certainly not as important if you are outside but I still recommend it. You don't necessarily need a sophisticated respirator, you can buy some of those disposable paint masks on the cheap, any precaution is better than none.
