I bought a can of vinyl dye today. Well, the can says "Plastic color", but I guess it is the same thing. I'm just curious as to what the difference between vinyl dye and regular spray-paint is. Will vinyl dye go deeper into the plastic, making the surface more durable? I am going to vinyl dye a bezel. Will it subsequently be necessary to clear coat it?
After what I've understood, it'll let the surface texture remain the same. Paint will stuff up in the "holes" and therefore make the surface even/plain. The vinyl dye won't ruin the texture. And by the way: WHERE DID YOU BUY IT? I've been looking everywhere for it here in Norway
I bought it at Biltema. It was called "Plastlakk". I tried spraying a drive bay cover an hour ago, and it looks really great. Only thing is that it is a bit shiny. I would prefer a little more matte surface.
Does Biltema carry vinyl dye?! OMG, thanks for sharing. I was just to put an order for some other bits there. Good luck with your future vinyl experiments...
In an old Biltema catalog I have, I saw something called "vinylfarge", but I'm not sure whether it's the same as "plastfarge".
Painted a case front today, took it into my room and mounted it on the case. And now my entire room smells like paint... Hope the fumes aren't dangerous to inhale. Mmmm... fumes. Edit: Bah! I'll have to move the computer out in the hallway before it kills me.
