I got my beautiful Lian Li V1000 Case today! Man is it sweet. Over the next few weeks Im going to be modding it, and Id like to share my progress with my fellow modders. This is my first Lian Li, and i must say I am impressed. Suggestions and comments are welcome! Things I want to do: 1) get a new PSU and mod it (in a new way...) 2) get rid of the clutter (make the wiring super clean) - cutting wires to proper length - getting rounded cables - sleeve wires 3) paint everything that isnt silver, silver (ie psu, cd-rom, dvd, floppy, fans, cables, etc) 4) perhaps some cathode lighting 5)who knows what else... as I mod, new ideas are sure to pop up And now, the fun part, the PICS: Here is a shot of my old case (Antec sx1040bII) next to my new one. Its a clear shot on size difference between the two. I already added a second cd-rom cover (case comes with only one)... man was it tough getting it sqeezed in there. Still an empty case, just wanted to have some nude pics on record thought this was a nice pic... The reflections on the sides of the case is an awesome effect. The PCI slot covers are like mirrors and are super cool. Had to sneak this in.. just got it. Also notice the odd screws that fit into the HDD track at the bottom of the case. The mess I have to now deal with... cables everywhere...
Cool case, very weird design (upside down mobo, psu at bottom... pci slots at the top...) Very expensive too, almost 200USD :x Though, without proper cooling, I could see how this case could pose a threat to your hardware, psu being on bottom, heat rises up to cpu, heat from cpu rises to your video card.. I don't see anything wrong with your old case (I would even take it off your hands for a bit of money )
one thing i like about the upside down mother board tray is that u get to see the big giant coolers u put on the core of ur video card but other than that...
1well i have seen them for as cheap as 150 2 its not odd its the new standard btx 3it improves heat excahange, the devider prevents the hot air from rising, cool air is sucked over the hdds then is imdatly expeled and in the top the hottest thing(the gfx) is at the top with a 120mm fan this provides eceptional heat exchange WARNING: ignore any spelling errors as its late here*sleepy smiley
It's not BTX. It's the mirror of it. Same idea though. It does do a great job keeping "hot zones" seperate though, and should provide adequite airflow to keep them cool. In fact some reviewer said it ran a few degrees cooler than his 12 fanned case and a LOT quieter. I still don't see how the CD covers go on these new ones.... but oh well. Let's see what you can do with it. I'm saving up for a v2000 myself
Good luck with your project Vio1. It is a very cool case. I am doing one in black, but H20 cooled. You can check it out here http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=62286
stealing our attention to your thread eh? I must say the v1000 mods are coming thick and fast ATM... I'm thinking about it, I just cant justify the case over my pc-61
http://formfactors.org/FFDetail.asp?FFID=12&CatID=1 Read page 9 of the first PDF on the list and see a picture of BTX ("expandible tower side view"). BTX opens on the right yet the slots are still on the bottom. (among a couple of other things which are irrelivent regarding the case). The only BTX-compatible case on the market is the CM Stacker, and it needs to be converted from ATX first which involves more than flipping the mobo tray over. So unless Intel changed how they are going to do BTX boards about 10 minutes ago and formfactors.org hasn't updated, this case isn't BTX compatible. It simply uses some concepts from it to help cooling. I think we need an update soon or this btx argument may never stop
niffty lil case ya got urself there.... i hope to one day get my hands ona lan li case ,and then hack it up cant wait to tsee wut u got planed, should be interestig with the upside down case and all
now I'll have to dig up that long arguement I had where I said it wasnt BTX and I ended up with about 50 people on 50 spamming a thread with diff links to reviewers who said it was BTX compatible as they got it from Lian-Li to test who happen to know what there cases are doing... I just seem to be a sheep in the middle... which damn side is right - lol
I must say the new PSU I bought: Enermax 470w noisetaker is annoying to sleeve: the mobo power cord is sooo hard to bend (I was going to remove the sleeving and put my own but when i removed the shrinkwrap I noticed that the ground wires were attached to the metal sleeving.. whats with that? -Is it safe to cut PSU wires to size? what about removing some of the molex that I dont need and have one longer line?
Vio1 I cut all my wires to about 100mm and put molex plugs in, creating a modular style PSU. This allowed me to custom create wire looms specific to my case and needs. If you cut them short, just remember to make sure they can't short against anything. BenJ
Eager to see what you do to this case. I started one of the first mods of a V1000 (the black one) on these forums back in June. Check it out if you've got a second. Project Fury
A window shouldn't be too hard to throw into that case, would it? I'd say if you were nervous, get one of those pre-fab window kits from bestbuy or something.
Vio1: Thanks! Putting a window into the case wouldn't be too hard, the side panel is a lot thicker than a normal one, but that's not too much of a hurdle. The one thing to consider is if you mess up, there are no spare panels to buy yet (at least not in black).
Ok, I promise.. tomorrow Ill post some pics. Have a question though: the v1000 comes with front usb and audio jack in (as well as some other stuff)... I want to hook up the audio jack to my audigy 2zs so that I can plug my headphones in... but the connection is wired for the mobo. Anyway I ideas?
Okay, I need some help: How do I get this: with this ending: onto this: I want to be able to hook up my headphones from the front and use my Audigy card instead of onboard audio. Now for some update pics: Notice the new scratched up Enermax PSU... Cut one of the cables off: firewire (never used it or plan on using it, so its in the way!) Some psu wires that still need cutting and sleeving. Anyone know what this wire is for? Dont mind the dirty carpet... I will vaccum. Its soooo tight in there... I was able to squeeze it all in.. yet I still have to sleeve a few more wires... I hope I can do it!
