ok, so the higher the ohms, the less you have to move the dial to have a change? How do I know what pot wont blow up on me?
How do i know what wattage rating it has? In the electonic surplus store in my city, the pots are divided by ohms and Ks... nothing about wattage rating.
www.digikey.com (and they ship to canada!). If you have any soldering experience at all I'd suggest building a circuit for it.
whats the advantage of a curcit? How does one go about building one? Why would I need anything more then a pot to control the speed of my fan?
By using a pot you are simply dissipating voltage across the windings of the pot. I guess it works, but it lacks finesse. This site (bit-tech) has several fan control articles that you may find to be of interest. Take a look
Hi everyone, sorry for not posting any updates lately... Needed a break from modding for a few days. Will start working again on it today. I will post some pics tonight.
Hi, I need some help. I was linked to Digi-Key to get some pots for my project, however Ive been up and down this list and cant find what im looking for... Can someone point me to what i need: http://ca.digikey.com/scripts/dksearch/DKSUS.dll?KeywordSearch?site=CA I need: 1x100ohm pot 1x50ohm pot (4 watts or higher) 1x10k pot If anyone could help me find this stuff I can get the mod back and running. thnx
Scroll down to the bit that says "Potentiometers / Variable Resistors" and chose the type you want. I'd imagine wirewound would be what you would want for the higher wattage one, the rest could be other types.
ugh... this is tough... asks for so much detail...detail i dont know. Do i want: Adjustable with tabs or Fixed with tabs or Vitreous with enamel? How many turns do i want (what do you recommend)? 10,11,20,22,25? Package size? Bulk or tape and reel? series? Tolerance? Company? http://ca.digikey.com/scripts/dksearch/DKSUS.dll?Criteria?Ref=141545&Site=CA&Cat=31982747
You want bulk packaging. http://dkc3.digikey.com/PDF/C043/0995.pdf Those would make pretty nice pots for lcd adjustment (which is what you're using them for, right?). So many options makes it really hard to chose, I know. There is something to be said for just going to ratshack and picking up whatever they have in stock
Look what came in today: now I have to wait for my scsi cable to arrive before i can set this puppy up... Hopefully it arrives today.
