So, you can get viruses from still pictures, if you haven't patched. Now you can get viruses in blur-o-vison (It's a patented Real technology, donchaknow... :naughty: ) movies according to news.com:

A software slipup in RealNetworks' music player means that Windows, Mac and Linux computers could be compromised by a fake movie file, a security company said Friday.

The problem means that fake movie files could be created that, when played by vulnerable Real software, would run a program instead. The flaw appears in RealPlayer 10 for Windows and Mac OS X, the RealOne Player for Windows and Mac OS X and the Real Helix Player for Linux.

"Anyone who has RealPlayer is affected, and there are many people with RealPlayer," said Marc Maiffret, chief hacking officer at software security company eEye Digital Security, the company that discovered the security issue.

RealNetworks could not immediately be reached for comment.

    More here

If you insist in keeping Real on your machine, there's aledgedly a patch available - but I'm damned if I can find it on Real's horrific website...

Dunno. Dont much care, either. I wouldn't let Realplayer anywhere near a machine of mine. ;)

I use Real One player, but only because some websites insist on only offering Real streams.

Real One isn't as bad as the normal version of Real which I would not even download let alone install on any of my systems.

The only thing Real One loads is an exe called TKBell, which can easily be disabled ;)

On the topic of viruses, seems that nothing is safe anymore, I was just reading last night about .txt files not being safe anymore, can't remember where I read it, will have a look and post back later.

Media Player Classic is your friend. Seriously, I don't understand how anyone could want to use RMP for anything :eyebrow:

I agree with you on this; I treat Realplayer the same as any other virus or trojan.

    ditto to that.

and i hate WMP too - it had the cheek to rename some of my files (some of them wrong too!), and since then (ages ago) I won't use it.
