Baz told me about this yesterday and it sounds awesome. In short, Virgin broadband customers are soon to receive a big bump up in upload speed to around 10% your download speed. For example, the 20Mbit services will see their upload speed boosted from 750Kbps to 2Mbps :D
    More info here

Anyway, I thought it would be interesting to see who has been upgraded (some already have) and what speed you're getting. I'm in Hertford and still stuck at 750Kbps. :sigh:

Not yet - speed tests show I'm still on 50Mbps down, 1.6Mbps up.

I wouldn't know what my upload speed is. Why does it matter, anyway?

It matters if you upload stuff :p

    I'll test mine now.

edit: Nope, still crap. 0.7mbit on 20mbit.

But why does it matter? I don't do p2p, I don't have a webcam so I'm not constantly uploading video, in fact the only times I do upload anything, afaik, it's just my bank details to that guy in Nigeria that wants to give me squillions of pounds because he once met Naomi Campbell's diamond merchant.

So why does upload speed matter? I presume I'm missing something fundamental here.

Mine has not been upgraded yet. Which reminds me, I must cancel as I'm moving in about a week and a half!

Well you aren't really missing anything, it just doesn't seem to be useful to you. But what you do on the internet is massively different to what some other people do on the internet. For example some of us play games, host game servers (which has to upload the game's data to several or more other players at the same time), and upload and download masses of stuff. Currently my download is 20mbit which is really nice. But my upload is 0.7 of a mbit which is pitiful. So this change will be really good for me.

I also edit video for my job, and I sometimes work from home, so being able to send videos down the wires to my work would be so great. At the moment I don't even bother most of the time because it would take too long.

    p.s.
It's also useful for homes (or businesses) that have multiple people sharing the same connection, because that can often put as many demands on the upload as it can the download.

    pps:
I'm really glad to see Britain making some good progress for a change.... I just wish there was more competition, otherwise Virgin will just become the next BT.:worried:

no upgrade here - but at leats thats very close to what I'm paying for

How do you all afford 50mb, and why? I find 10mb gives me no lagg in BFBC2 and downloads everything fast and steadily, dont think im ever throttled.

I'm never really sure with my speedtest.net results. I always seem to get terribly high download results for the package im on (20Mb). When I watch the little speed gague it hovers around 20 for most of the download then shoots up to 50-70+ for the last 30%.

But anyway, my UL is still pretty flimsy at 0.31Mbps

What's the schedule for the rollout? I take it's not something they're just switching on over the next couple of days...

nope, last time i checked (last night when BFBC2 showed a couple laggy moments) it's still a tiny 0.4Mbps :(

also using Milton Keynes server, and live near Hertsfield.

can't wait for this to be rolled out. but 1Mbps is still slower than my iphone 4's upload speed i get at my place.........
