The latest vigilante virus to hit the net is after your MP3 collection, according to security advisories issued by Sophos. This from news.com:

A hacker has created a virus that targets music lovers by deleting MP3 files on infected computers, according to antivirus company Sophos.

The worm, dubbed Nopir.B, spreads over peer-to-peer networks and appears to have originated in France, security researchers at Sophos said Friday.

Nopir.B is designed to look like a DVD-cracking program, to fool people looking for a program that will circumvent copy-restriction technology on the discs. When the worm is downloaded and run, it attempts to delete all MP3 music files and wipe some programs from the infected PC, the company said in its advisory.

    More here

Of course, no one would be downloading DVD crackers, would they... ;)

Well seeing as the DVD encryption tends to violate fair-use rights... But I have all the software I need anyways (dvd decrypter/autogk anyone?).

Anyways... what a stupid virus. Not that any are good, but this one's actually annoying.

Got this program and it rules.

WHY put copyright notices on a product aht everyone knows can'tbe copied legally. Now i don't even have to view the trailers at the start of some DVDs :)

RIAA are getting despirate. They've probably just realised that there's no way "We'll sue you!!! rar rar!!" will put people off copying and distributing films.... especially when us Brits have to wait sometimes 6 months for films to be released in the cinema.... and a LOT longer for DVDs.
