That problem I have fixed , in my previous post somewhere in the forum, but what seems to happen is that it might have found a way to intrude my DEFENCELESS, FIREWALL-LESS system.

So all I want to ask from you guys is where to get a good FREE software firewall for my use and when I get my allowance waht brands of software firewall are good to buy and even possibly hardware ones and explain the difference between hardwarea and software firewalls , pros , cons etc.

    Thanks alot :thumb:

bloody fourth power cut now :wallbash:

    try again

I'm sat behind a Smoothwall box (aka Linux firewall). I use AVG 7 (version 6 is free and fully functional) and the lastest version of ZoneAlarm (again, there's a free version). ZoneAlarm is mainly used to prevent media player, etc fro phoning home.

Sygate (again, pay for and free versions are available) is more configurable than ZA, but I've had problems with it on several different computers. The cpu runs at 100% while transferring files accross a LAN...

    Stay away from Norton.

Ok thanks for the replies I see all of you so far have recommended me AVG but to be hoenst when I first had Win 32 Pariet present on my computer AVG obvipously did warn me but to remove the virus all programs (.exes in this case because the virus targets these files) had to be wiped out basically, including internet explorer, so not IE = no internet ... so i was pretty screwed .

That's the only reason I dont like about AVG and seeing as I seem to be getting this friggin Win32 Parite again I'm looking for a temporary solution before I get zonealarm, for example is the firewall in my SP1 anygood ? (default WinXP Home firewall).

Thx again for the helpful replies and information.
