Mt rig sig has a case of the gremlins sadly. It BSODs alot, sometimes loading Vista, sometimes mid game (Supreme Commander these days) or even idle on the desktop. I managed to get a snap of the blud screen earlier and it is as follows (sorry but my camera didn't get the whole screen): *** STOP 0x0000007E(0xFFFFFFFFC0000005,0xFFFFFFA6*missing* xFFFFFFA6002FB1630) *** nvlddmkm.sys - Address FFFFA60022*missing* 481c0f12 and it dumps physical memory and crashes after that. In just typing this up it has crashed on the desktop and has a completely different error. Help ME! Gav
Well the RAM is not that old, Crucial Ballistix PC8500 and not overclocked at all. I will have another 2gb arriving in the post soon so can check for faulty modules etc. Video card memory perhaps? I have the latest nVidia drivers, and don't have any old 64bit Vista ones as I only just upgraded to Vista last week. It behaved itself jut there, got a good 2 hours of gaming, but it is irratating. I think I tried memtest but will try again
When did you have such problem? Is that a new computer, or did it occur slowly (more and more problems), or just like that? Did you try older nVidia drivers? how about those form Windows update (as these are Microsoft tested). What do you have installed (exactly) on your computer, did you ever play with drivers (like one day accidentally installed bad drivers for any device)? Hmmm, this is defiantly a problem related to hardware witch leads Windows into complete confusion, screws up, and give you that BSOD message. It's wither a driver or hardware malfunction (it could be a virus or malware that damaged Windows... but I trust that you use legit software and know what you are downloading, and did not disable UAC and don't run as real Administrator. First make sure that no USB/firewire/eSATA/parallel/COM/MIDI devices at plugged to your computer other then your average keyboard and mouse. If that does not help, remove all hardware from your computer as extra (like TV-Tuner, Sound card, Wireless card...) see if that helps. If not, insert and boot from Vista official disk the MemTest tool (found in "repair"). If it passes try this tool: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ Try tests on your RAM, stress your computer with benchmarking, perform hard drive diagnostics, and use the malware tool. One of the tests must fail.
I have had the PC since April, ran fine with XP but 5 or so days ago I went for Vista 64 bit, nothing has changed in theh rig (well new RAM on the way). got Vista as part of the MSDN network, and it is a fully legit copy, I would never dream of piracy! My official disk is just an .iso I burned but will that work the same? I will try all this tomorrow after work, thanks for th help!
Ah! Perhaps it is a miss burn... and some critical file got damaged. That is why I don't like copying OS. I had a similar experience when I got my new computer in 2006 as I installed XP with my backup copy. Out of desperation I tried the Official disk, and guess what! It worked fine. In your case it could even be a miss download. Also do you have the latest BIOS? 'cause if your BIOS has a Vista bug or not compatible... then weird thing can also occur. In my case, Vista was never been able to shut down my computer (like the good old says with Windows 95). However, a BIOS update and everything is perfect.
I do not have the latest BIOS, just what came with the motherboard, it always tells me to update, but last time I checked (about a month ago) there STILL was no updates avaliable. I will try one later tonight,t but it is the one thing I have tried my best to avoid, I just don't like the idea of potentially cocking up and ruining a motherboard... ASUS's BIOS updater any good or shall I jut get out the good old USB stick?
Just out of interest, what motherboard do you have? sound remarkably similar to the problems my PC has with vista64 Rock-stable in XP, but horrifically unstable in vista
it is the Maximus Formula (not special edition), forgot I have not made up a sig for this forum yet Good board, I can get my Q9450 to 3.44Ghz, but haven't had a chance to try OCing at all cause of this BSOD! My M2N SLi Deluxe (like yours) had a fair few issues late last year, but it was a PSU/motherboard thing, word of warning, that board hates Enermax with a passion!
Okk, I had 805 (?) as my main BIOS, I flashed them to 906 and then 1101 or something, not sure on the numbers, but basically the latest one they have up on the asus website. BSOD'ed the first 2 times when trying to boot up, but played fine after that, got a good 4 hours gaming with no BSODs, scanning the PC now jut to see if anything liike a virus might be causing this. Will try switching memory as soon as I get my second 2gb of memory, awaiting stock so hopefully soon. Will keep you updated, thanks for all the help!
