Here's a good one - what is the most accurate temperature monitoring software for Vista 64bit? I have had to go through the whole running a hack to get CoreTemp working in Vista 64bit without disabling digital signed driver checking, which wasn't much of a pain, but I have had some strange results. I also installed SpeedFan, both of them read different temperatures on stock settings at idle, here are the results : - CoreTemp Core0 - 39 Core1 - 39 Core2 - 32 Core3 - 36 SpeedFan Core0 - 24 Core1 - 24 Core2 - 17 Core3 - 21 I would like to think SpeedFan is correct but something tells me that is a little low for air cooled considering the ambient temp is around 28-30 in the case. But when I check in the Asus hardware monitor in the bios the CPU temp reading is around the 20 mark. Which one should I trust, does anyone know of a better temperature monitor for Vista 64bit? With around a 15 degree difference I'm a bit worried and if CoreTemp is reading right that seems a little high considering the the CPU and cooling I am using.
I'd say Coretemp is right - Speedfan is known to be 15 Degrees too low when reading Quadcores. Your readings are about the same as mine: Idle temps @2.4GHz: Core 0: 36C Core 1: 36C Core 2: 33C Core 3: 33C
Have you tried Everest? has the added bonus of a sidebar widget and works fine on my AM2 under Vista64.
Cheers for the heads up, will give Everest a go when I get home tonight and let you know what temps that one comes up with
As said, Speedfan 4.33 is 15C out on any Intel processor with Tj=100C, it rates them as Tj=85C; the latest beta version (4.34b38) fixes the bug. From the CPUID people comes HWMonitor which agrees with Speedfan with my C2D, but the same people's PCWizard (a free Everest/Sandra clone) gives cores 15C too high on my E2180, classes it Tj100 when it's Tj85. Coretemp is OK but a bit lacking in other information.
