Trying to install office 2007 on vista premium.

All other features seem to work fine but outlook, which is what I mainly want it for.

    So far have tried:
    Full reinstall of office
    Reinstalling outlook

    The problem:
Outlook seems to work fine, until you try and read a message, either in the panel or in a new window. It opens the setup thing and starts to configure office outlook.
It will run though this in around 10 minutes, and outlook will work exacley how it should (same as on my desktop).
Restart either the pc or just the program, starts the process all over again.

    What could be causing this?

    Right, tried something else.

Copied the directory out of my desktop (XP pc) onto the non working machine.

And it all worked no problem until I tried to send/receive.

    Cant win :(

Did you happen to have a prior version of Outlook installed? Outlook 2007 cannot exist on the same system as a prior version, unlike the rest of the Office suite.

Its a conflict that occurs with windows mail, try running through first-time setup on that first to get it out of setup mode and try outlook.

    It worked for me.

I have a similar problem although i'm using xp pro. When i start outlook or plug my pda in i get a 'windows installer' box that wont go away even if i click cancel, i end up having to close it using task manager each time and restarting outlook/activesync. When I restart outlook it still brings up the installer window several times but seems to close iteself.

I had office XP on beforehand, but it would'nt fully un-install even with the the office removal tool from microsoft. Everything works fine except for outlook :(

Does this happen when you start Outlook and don't have your PDA connected to the PC? We had a ton of Outlook problems at home until we figured out my wife's PDA and the sync settings were causing the issues.

You could try vLite by the makers of nLite. I'll proberly use it soon enough to get rid of all the c**p. It's still in beta btw.

Edit. Why not just use Live Mail, personally I can't see much difference between the two, but then I have never been much of an outlook user, prefer to use just hotmail.

Yes it does, but I dont think it's related to my PDA, as the problem happens when activesync isn't even running. Besides which my pda and activesync both worked fine when i had office xp.

Don't have a PDA, this was happeneing before anything such as my ipod was installed.

Seems like a conflict between some windows vista program and office.

As for reason for using outlook, I use the calander, todo list etc etc its just a very good program at managing those things :)
