    Me again.

This problem started when I installed McAfee VirusScan plus 2007. I installed this, restarted as per the installation required, and this began. When windows boots, I type in my login and it says loading... until a error pops up.

The instruction at 0xc4e9b825 is referenced memory at 0xc4eb825. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program.

Then the screen goes black and says windows has encountered an error and will shut down in 1 minute.

I'm like ok... so a Windows Repair will fix this up, I pop in the Vista disk and my only options are startup repair, system restore and full system restore, which loads a premade backup of everything.

System restore claims it has no restore points to fall back on, which is weird because its not disabled. I don't have a made backup disk, so I can't use that, and startup repair found no problems, but this error remains.

I'm out of obvious solutions, and I really don't want to mess around too much trying to find an answer to this, so I figured I would post to clear this up quickly.

Anyone ever had this problem? It looks like explorer.exe is corrupted, any way I can replace the file? I have a working XP partition on the same PC, which gives me full access to files on the Vista part.

    Thanks in advance for suggestions!

    EDIT

I'm an idiot. It didn't dawn on me that McAfee was actively messing up vista, not just damaging it during install. A quick trip into safe mode to uninstall it and now I'm back on the road.

Might seem harsh, but anyone who installs McAfee or Norton or some other **** probably deserves it.

    That would be me.

I'd get something else but Vista virus protection is slim pickings still. I've used McAfee for the past 3 years and I've never had a problem with it, and my mom doesn't think something she didn't pay for will work just as well (or better than) something we do pay for.
