Oh no, they are targeting September. That month is cursed :worried: :hehe:

It makes sence that they would put more things in Vista that would make users make the switch. They are going to be porting so many of the essentials over to WinXP so that developers will actually use them that there seems to be little incentive to upgrade.

    Oh noes! Not my dx10!!!

I'm sure I've heard of this somewhere before, like many many months ago, but I honestly don't remember where. I think it was reading up on some tech mumbojumbo about dx10.

Good to hear about an early release of vista, can't wait (as I'll actually have hardware that'll run it by then! Woo!)

I'm not looking forward to it, I just feel like its going to be more restrictive, do less that I like and more that I hate, but still I'll need it if I want to play games :(

Nice of them to do the only using DX10 on vista, I'm sure its perfectly workable on XP, but they won't...

Dual boot time again - XP for DX9 and below games, Vista for DX10 and above games. Simplest solution. Though a lot of hassle, but if gamers still want the compatibility...

Well I'm guessing that dx9 and lower games will work fine under vista on dx10 so no real need dual boot with XP just for that. I think the article is just trying to say that dx10 wont be available on XP which would suck - forces everyone to upgrade if they want to get the best out of their games!

On a side note, I thought they were scrapping the dx naming scheme and releasing it under Windows Graphics Foundation (WGF)??

Wouldn't surprise me about the whole WGF thing, but they'll probably keep it under wraps untill they're ready for a full press release singy dancey thing.

The article linked to in the bit article mentions:
Dual booting would solve the problem of in-compatibility issues with older games, as I understood from reading both articles, issues may be present.

How the heck can there be any issues with compatibility?! Wtf have they been doing all this time if not ensuring that the transition to the new OS will be as smooth as possible - something that won't be the case if half your software doesn't work. I'll stick my neck out and say people are just scare mongering/stupid. Noone would upgrade if there was any such issues.

Dualbooting would more likely be useful to avoid the restrictions that will almost certainly be in Vista as much of the time as possible. A bit of a pain, but if that's what it takes. Depends how DRM-ey it is, and what the deal ends up being with TC content.

It's about time that more top titles started shipping for Linux OS's.....

I know...I know....it may never happen becuase of all that marketing crap! Just when I thought Microsoft re-deemed themselves with a reasonable job on XP they go and make this stupid mistake of not supporting DX9 in Vista :grr:

Here's a thought, do you think you can right click the DX10 icon, choose the Compatibilty tab, tick the box and run it in DX9 compatibility mode ;)

don't many games already backwards support even before dx9 (I think steam engine? for example). I don't see why microsoft would just leave out compatibility for no reason. From what I see, a possibility of why they would do this is to decrease piracy

Being as the hardware requirements are much higher on Vista, people would be paying so much money for a computer already, microsoft would think - why would consumers not just shell out a little bit extra for a legit OEM install.

I was at an RM technical Seminar today and a guy was demo'ing it, it looks alright but there trying to hard to hype up things that arnet that amazing, he went on about the search functions for about 15 minutes (and messed it up a few times), then just yacked on about graphical featureslike the ways you can view mutiple programs and preview documents or whatever. I did ask him about mutiple core support and he said theyve done quite a lot of work to make use of it's performance. Its going to cost same as usual and will be available in the usual versions, I think he said it would be out a bit earlier than September tho.

Anyways we will just have to wait for the final product.

Doubt I will buy it straight away, bet its gonna be XP all over again, 6 months of bugs and BSOD...

Edit:\ Some idiot asked if it will support AMD cpu's and Nvidia graphics cards :duh:

Any word on if they are they still planning on making us buy new monitors to be able to use it? Already decided that if we do, screw it, I don't neet shader 4 that badly. If I want a game with better graphics, I will just buy it for the PS3 or Xbox 360

What?! :) Spec, I'm not sure what you're smoking, but could you ship some over here? :D

From what I understand, yes, the new monitor thing is still accurate, it's MS's nod to the MPAA. It's only for HiDef content. To make sure you're not stealing it...or something. Somehow I'm not sure how a special cable makes sure you're not stealing it...but then again, I'm not working for the MPAA. Who obviously smoke so much of Spec's stuff they get a little paranoid... :worried:

Vista will officially be the end of my PC gaming if they refuse to support Windows XP anymore with DX10.

I absolutely refuse to touch Vista with even a ten-foot pole.

Well, from what I understand the new content protection being pushed by the MPAA et all is being used by MS, because they feel if they didn't use it that would mean Vista was fairly useless for playing videos on. But because they're using it it means that most of our monitors become useless for playing any high quality(so basicly whatever follows DVD's looks like it wont play on a PC anymore unless you buy a new monitor too) videos on. The movies will either not play, or they'll play at a reduced resolution.

However, even before this was all out a couple of guys, I believe in the states, had worked out a bypass for it. But you can guarentee it will be illegal to actually watch the movie you paid for unless you've bought a new monitor ;)

Oh and the "evil nasty.." thing was just me poking a laugh at the MPAA and its British counterpart, for trying so hard to link anything they dont like to international terrorism :p. Sorry for that confusion, I really shouldn't post at 3am

It looks like its going to be all the problems of xp and then some. Ill just wait for someone to make a hack to take out some of that crap ms thinks is nice. And I bet its even more resource hungry then xp ever could be. Just have to wait about 6 months for the bugs to get removed.
