Could anyone please tell me if there is a way to get a visual representation of a defrag; or the results of, in Vista?

If you use a program such as Vista Optimizer 2008, there is a visual defragger.
But you're probably better off just getting hold of a dedicated defragging program.

    nope

There is no way to get a drive map in Vista defrag. Vista's defrag is very different from XP's.
I have Diskeeper 2008 pro installed on the Vista laptop (and XP gaming desktop) and I really like it. It performs better than the Vista defrag, works in the background unintrusively and has useful options such as VSS-aware defragmentation. Not free, but worth it, IMO. Highly recommended.:) EDIT: you download the trial versions from the diskeeper website, and use freely for 30 days.
