    hey all

have been running vista x64 for a few days now, and ive noticed, that its accessing the hard drive A LOT

its using a gig of pagefile on average, but if im doing something like scrolling down a web page, i hear the hard drive chatter.

whats the deal with this?!anyone else had this? how to remedy?

is there any way i can get the os to go to RAM before hitting the pagefile, i.e. lowering the threshold at which it overspills to page file as it says ive got something crazy like half a gig of physical memory free!

am gna pop in another half gig in a sec and will post back!

Disable the pagefile? If you have half a gig of RAM free, and are adding another half a gig, you probably have enough RAM to run just fine without Virtual Memory...

i've disabled the page file, and re-booted. but in task manager, it STILL tells me its using 1.33gb of page file! WTF!

i've even upped the ram to 2gb now. it says theres 900mb free. this is really a bitc*!

Well, I haven't tried Vista at all, but I know on XP on this computer, I thought I had disabled the page file, but when I loaded it again, I hadn't. In XP, there is a "Set" button, that I hadn't pressed, I had clicked "OK" at the bottom of the window, and assumed it would work. Now obviously, Vista may have a very different settings box... But check anyway?
