Just built a new rig, but was having some problems with stability and drivers.

So I took the plunge last night and installed an MSDN copy of Windows Vista Ultimate x64. I wasn't sure if I could get it running - ie. not enough x64 driver support perhaps.

But Wow! It installed quickly enough and very smoothly, and in no time at all I was inside looking at the shiny new chrome. With some trepidation, I made my way to the Device Manager to see how many components were running on makeshift drivers and how many weren't working. Wow2: Everything in my machine had an appropriate driver apart from my Audigy 4 card. Ok, I made sure I got the latest x64 drivers for the 7900GTO but it seemed to be doing fine with the MS drivers that it started woth.

Various extras like the ASUS mobo utilities haven't installed and a few other minor utilities, but certainly nothing that important, and I'm sure alternative s/w will soon be available.

I'm still getting used to the navigation in My Computer/Windows Explorer, but I can always swith back to classic if I decide. But the opacity is not half as annoying as I anticipated and is bordering on useful.

In general, it looks great, it is responsive and it looks to have a few nice extras and improvements.

And it makes XP look so dated....

I just installed it too, after a battle.

I installed it on the second partition. It totalled my XP install on the first partition and refused to boot.

I installed it on the second partition, it works but it BSOD twice in 2 days so far, once when it first opened media player, then again when I installed java (for the 4th time, the 1st attempts didnt work).

I have a decent graphics card (9800xt) and aero is a bit jerky on that, very useable still but noticeable.

I already dont like it that much.

That being said the sidebar is very useful and the new start bar is a good idea.
