Ok, so I have been with Vonage for the past year or so but now it looks like they are about to go the way of SunRocket. I hope they make it through but all these lawsuits against them are making it look pretty grim. Anyways, I figured it might be time to change to a more stable VoIP service. What do you guys suggest? I have one friend who swears by Net2Phone and another that has been with Lingo for a while. Anyone here got any good recommendations?
I've been quite fond of skype for the last 3 years or so... but unfortunately it doesn't play nice with asterisk at all so if you're after a proper sip based service I'm pretty lost myself.. Sorry dude.
ive been using VoipCheap for a while.. works well for me. There are many others that are run by the same company and they just made a new one called VoipWise which has a better deal. Many land lines are free to call, mind you there is a fair use policy, and with VoipWise you can message people for free aswell. With VoipCheap its like 1 pence per sms. You need to register and then load your account with like 10 euros or pounds and then it will let you use your free minutes and other services. You can use sip with them too btw. They have some other cool features too like a normal client and a web client. With the web client you can check your account details, send messages and you can type in your own number and someone else's and it will call your phone and then theirs and connect you.
sipgate.co.uk is English; the parent company is German, so you might have got to the sipgate.de site instead. Anyway, another vote for sipgate, I've had no problems with them, and it works perfectly with Asterisk.
Using sipgate - it doesn't seem to work with those menu driven systems ("if you want this press 1 etc"), as the tones don't seem to go through. Looooads of parameters to set up (we're using an sipura box so can use a normal phone through it - very useful). I'm trying to get it to give the option of re-routing calls (essentially means you can phone it on it's number from a different number, then let it dial out, where-upon it gives you a tone and you enter a PIN, then it lets you dial another number (e.g an international one)). I have a good reason for this!
