Get a mouse that you can configure buttons on and change it to volume up/down. :cooldude:

Hmm, now that's an interesting idea. I could easily machine the knob part. Gut a USB mouse... But could you have it installed as a mouse, re-map it's buttons for volume and stuff without interfering with the exsisting mouse?

BTW- I don't think the price is bad. For a real aluminum piece with those functions and looks.

Just so you know, that griffen tech one that think geek carries, it's is not small, I have a few of them, it's pretty hefty, about as tall as one and a half standard mice and slightly bigger than a normal human palm, I would say it's about 3.5 inches wide by about 3 inches tall, it's quite large.

I knew a shop once that sold those touch-sensitive "pads" used in laptops, it wasn't expensive at all and it had a regular mouse-interface I thought. But it was limited and it's out of stock (won't come back either). You could've used that on some way or another.

That seems a well made peice of kit but I can't see it offers much apart for aestetics at that price. A few more buttons and they migth be onto something. Plus not everyone wants blue light coming from every piece of kit.

Of course if you really need a large aluminium knob I suppose its the thing for you ;)

see i had an idea for a case that would be a media computer. on the front i want a volume knob, and just a volume knob. i wanted it like the one on an ipod, just cause it looks cool. i want the whole case to be that ivory white color [and finish]

on the top i was thinking would be the power button and a keyboard, in-laid. probably a fairly flat one [mod it to be the right color, or maybe mod it totally to be virtually flat] i was hoping i could find a place to buy a glidepad [ http://www.nextag.com/Input_Devices~300242z0z_aInput_Device_Type:TouchpadszBwzmainz5-htm ] which i did, to also set in the case. i dont know if i have the ability to make this case, since i'm an unfunded [lol] teenager, but it would be cool.

IF it's a USB mouse, I suppose you could hack off the USB part, then get a connecter to hook it direct to the mobo... bu I don't know how you'd get normal mouse functions.

Can anyone think of a way to use one of these as a touch volume control? It would be cool because you could probably program the buttons to be back, play/pause, stop, next :)
