The Task! The task is to take a rather dull, every day case, and do magical things to it, using the free edition of Google Sketchup!. Here is the case: Taken from the outstanding collection of our dear friend jezmckean, this beautiful model of a SilverStone Temjin SST-TJ03B was created by the almighty Scooby - whose models are often more desirable than the actual item itself... LINK to the SketchUp file! Fill it with your dream hardware, add some insane water cooling, cut out a window, paint it burple... the world is your oyster really. Whatever you do, just make sure it is cool, and post up pictures of your creation. Just a few rules: 1) You must use the model of the SilverStone Temjin SST-TJ03B, drawn by Scooby. The link is given above. 2) Google SketchUp must be used to make this model, i.e. no 3dsmax, no Alias Maya or Cobalt or whatever else there is available these days... AMENDMENT 1.1: ONLY THE FEATURES AVAILABLE IN THE FREE VERSION OF SKETCHUP MAY BE USED. So no 3D rendering, no V-Ray and no Mankz. no Cobalt 3) The case mod must be the feature of your entry. 4) Your mod may not feature obscene images. Remember this is a family forum. 5) The prizes will be given in order of the amount of votes obtained by the designer. The individual with the most votes shall get 1st prize etc. 6) The judges shall be: The Bit-Tech Community, in a poll after the deadline. 7) Deadline set at 00:00 GMT, 1st December 2008 (may be changed later) 8) Whatever you do, don't make this a thread where you ask us about how to use SketchUp... take your queries elsewhere. Preferably Google... 9) Comments must be creative and thoughtful - you may not flame someone for their design. 10) Voting will end exactly 31 days after the end of the competition. (Again, I may change this later) I look forward to seeing the weird and wonderful things you're all capable of - might have a go myself... Have fun, MGT *Terms and Conditions: Items may vary from those shown in the images. Items will only be sent if the winner is willing to accept them. Postal insurance is available for a small additional charge. This promotion is not associated with www.bit-tech.net, or its affiliates, and they cannot be held liable for any damages as a result of this competition, and neither can modgodtanvir, MNPCTech or TheGreatSatan. modgodtanvir reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions, and rules whenever he chooses.
Very nice idea here. I would be in for designing something since there is cheesecake on the line. We could start a donation pot(about a dollar each) to buy the cheesecake with. Here's how I would do it.
It shouldn't be. "Google SketchUp must be used to make this model, i.e. no 3dsmax, no Alias Maya or Cobalt or whatever else there is available these days..." It would be a bit unfair to those of us who have weak hardware or cannot afford the expensive programs - such as Sketchup Pro.
theirs not much difference my friend just different plugins and a few different bits most the stuff in pro most people never use
There is one big difference: The ability to export models as filetypes such as .3ds - which are compatible to better render engines than Kerkythea.
Nice idea dude, but I reckon if the idea is good, I'd be willing to buy you the cheesecake myself If the prize was more expensive than cheesecake, like some hardware or something, I might actually have used a fundable account... EDIT:
I'd still say no! We can have another contest for renders, but a good design with a good render will always win against a better design without one. Otherwise we say Kerkythea only, to keep the contest "free" of expensive programs. I'll still participate anyway, as this is about the fun, not the winning (as I won't win), but still it should be fair.
oh, i'm deninately gunna send in my own contribution. My head is tilting with ideas Not for the winning? There's cheesecake involved man!
i agree Aterius Gmork no renders but it wound be nice to see it done just not for this compo, like i mean once the compo is over post away rendered images just wait to it is finished EDIT: modgodtanvir maybe you could make a lis tin OP of who is entering?
this would be a great opportunity for some sponsors to jump in and fund the winning design to actually be built
yes Xtrafresh but some may be to wild to be built *cough* mine *cough* well cound be done but may take a hell of a long time
ArteriusGmork presents a good point. Hence, @bentleya, you may submit a design whenever you wish, and it will be added to a list in the OP. If you choose to amend the model, maybe add something, state that it is a different version, and I will amend this on the OP. After the final deadline, which atm is 31st Oct 2008, no more entries will be taken, and a pool will be opened to decide the winner. A sponsor would be pretty amazing. I'll have a go at sending out a few emails, see if I can get a reply...
Looking forward to it. I'm just gotten started on mine as well! Is anybody else looking at the level of detail in this model and just thinking - WHOA!
