i really like this, but for £30 at maplin, it seems a bit costly, does anyone know where i can get one cheaper? or plans to build my own.
Do a search for LM3915. There are hundreds of circuits around that use these chips as a vu meter. I would give a link if I had one.
Check out this thread for starters, and there also seems to be a good deal of VU meter discussion in the electronics forum at the moment. Hey chopsuwe, welcome to the boards. :dude: W00t, more electronix d00ds every day around here...
Thanks. I'm kind of defecting from the [H]. There don't seem to be many electronics people left there. They are still good for computer related stuff.
Oh really? Too bad there isn't a GenMay anymore or I'd cross post this and see what the guys had to say about that.
LoL Linear.... there's one more too, but can't member the addy... I was posting a curt message in protest to "there's no electronics people left"... wanted to know the brand of the crack he's smokin:dude:
That's gone up a bit, only £20 in my catalogue (KV91Y) which isn't OTT for 2 3915s at £3 each (Maplin price), 20 leds and the pcbs. Maplin used to do a discrete transistor version, fair bit cheaper, I've the circuit somewhere if you fancy the old-fashioned way
W00t! A fellow defect! I'm shifting over here and a couple other forums. Ever since the [H] started crashing. I understand they've fixed it for the most part now, but still. I still read hardocp though
Just to totally spoon feed you here is the link. http://www.pcmodkits.com/ I got mine from here, shipping is jack all and no tax to pay either. And you can still build it yourself. GET ONE
