Hi everyone. Can somebody please tell me...Is it possible to buy a pair of analogue vu meters in their own small cabinet which could connect up to my PC speaker system? I don't want to be wiring anything up, just wondered is there anything out there that would connect straight up to my speakers or poss usb connection. Not interested in LEDS just the old fashioned anologue ones. I remember buying a pair of stand-alone anologue meters in a small wooden box in the 70's that connected straight up to my 2pin Din speakers on my Hi Fi (think they interconnected via the cables somehow) and looked the bizz. Just one thing too...I don't mean software for the PC here, just the actual meters to sit alongside my monitor. Grateful of any replies. Thanks.
The best sort of places to look would be a HiFi shop like Ritcher sounds or maplins < iknow the sort of thing you're after, it's like a pass through unit that comes off the speakers, I was thinking about something along those lines for my next project.
Thanks bulldogjeff for your FAST reply and for your suggestions. Sadly I've tried them AND ebay AND even google'd it too... ALL to no avail. Only ones I've come across are individual ones that you have to wire up yourself, and I CERTAINLY don't fancy getting into wiring diagrams etc. Feel there has just GOT TO BE somebody out there who sells them. Thanks again.
You can get them for your PC... but they wouldn't go directly into your soundcard. You would need an external mixer and probably an amplifier too. VU Meters are catered for radio stations etc. which are using the studio monitor speakers, mixers, amps etc. There may be an alternative for a normal PC, but the traditional VU Meters you speak of are only for the pro equipment.
I'm not sure about sound, but if you want to Vu up your hard drives there was a great article in CPC about how to make your own one from scratch. That may be at least useful to you. If you want, I can try to find the copy.
