OK the problem: At school I'm working on an apache, php and mysql project. Only problem is, I can't install wamp ( http://www.en.wampserver.com ) or apache and php separately on any school machines. However I am allowed to use my pen drive. Is there a way to set up wamp or apache on the pen drive so that I can run php scripts anywhere? :thumb:

I was the same for my a2 computing project, made a forum. I just used my server at dfhaii.com for testing, gives you an excuse to get a website on the go :thumb:

Well I would think you could just install everything to the pen drive. Do a google for easyserv or foxserv and try that (it needs to be x:\EasyServ, it may install to \Foxserv and not work right).

I've been trying to figure out the same thing, and the best I came up with was using an app called "MyServer" with PHP5, using SQLite as the database server.

Overall not great, but not bad either. If you figure out getting apache installed on a removable device, let me know!

We've got ~24 computers (intel celerons :blah: ) in our library ("learning resource centre" apparently) which have a shared 2Mbit connection from Zen, but the IT room, which is right next to the LRC (so it'd be easy to extend the access, there's even a door going between the rooms), we don't have internet access at all. Bit pointless really,oh and we have dreamweaver and flash in the LRC but not in IT :eyebrow: .

btw thanks for all the help guys but I was getting the admin to poke round on the server today (nice guy, very helpful :hehe: ) and guess what we found?

MySQL! It was already installed for a guy a couple of years ago who did an A-level project using it so I'm guessing there's PHP too. Yay! :D

Not as bad as ours, they have disabled all usb drives and installed linux. then killed the servers.

None of your schools have got anything on mine. Just for a start, we could get 1500k ADSL for <$100 a month, but we use 256k one-way satilite which costs upwards of $200 a month (Shared between nearly 200 computers). Our macs run OS 9, and I don't think our windows machines have been updated any time this year. But the real killer, the holy grail of stupidity is that every computer in the whole school has a static, internet IP! I swear the techs wouldn't know an NAT if it him them in the face :wallbash: Possilby even worse, the school's website is hosted off this connection - effectively 56k, though probably closer to 33k!

    Oh, and:
