Looking to build a light weight car (4 seater) with a 125cc M/Cyc or Scooter engine.

Will the 125CC engine be sufficient to move the weight of the car including the 4 passengers.

Weight of the car will consist of the the following items:
Engine, Fuel tank, Tyres(will use light wt tyres not the usual car tyres),
Frame work, Light wt seats. etc.
    4 passengers.

Need help and advice as this is just my second attempt at mechanics.
A couple of yrs ago I attached a motor to a cycle. (I bought the cycle with everything attched on it.....u see i'm a beginner and looking to build from scratch)

whats the best place to read on this.

    rgds.

Why do you want a car to be powered by a 125cc scooter engine?

Do you want this to be road legal too?

It would move but it would be seriously slow. You're going to need at least about 30hp to make any kind of useful progress carrying 4 people even if the car's only a couple of hundred kg. Not sure what kind of power those scooter engines put out but I expect it's what... 15hp tops?

I'd recommend going for something a bit bigger in terms of engine. A 500cc+ bike engine would be more like it :)

A vanilla 125cc single cylinder motorbike engine will have about 12-15bhp. a 50cc scooter engine about 4.5-6 horses. You'll want at least a 500cc twin (about 40-50 bhp, depending on the model). Torque is going to be an issue too...most bikes are designed to push around low weights (about 350 kilos max, including the two riders).

As far as power to weight goes, I think the 600cc engine range is probably the best (though the 1 litre brigade is quickly catching up/overtaking). A 600 sports engine will get you 90-100bhp for about 55-70 kilos of engine.

It amuses me that the two posts you've made regard this matter.
Personally, I'd say you'd be better finding a better related forum (cars), although we have some people on this forum that do know their stuff when it comes to cars etc, I think you'd be better asking around on a specialist forum. :)
