Does anybody want to go in with me on buying a server? I need about half of it but the other half wouldn't be of use to me - we could split the cost in proportion to what exactly we're buying.

If you're interested in splitting it up email me (morphious@iwnation.com)

Note: This server is for IPB Helpers and my other sites. I've got several people interested so if you're seriously interested in this PLEASE EMAIL ME ASAP.

We could provide 100GB bandwidth and 5GB space for about $20 a month.

    morphious@iwnation.com is my email.

And also, it's a Linux server with CPanel.

Servers don't need to be too high spec so you could probably afford to just buy one yourself. Pentium 3's are passive too so it'd be quiet. It'd also be much easier if you needed more space in the future because you wouldn't be arguing over who owns it. Then again, I don't know your situation so it's your choice.

But what I need is too expensive for me, whether I get a shared plan or a dedicated server.

So wait, are you actually buying a physical server, or just renting one??
It seems from your first post that you're buying hardware, but in the last post you seem like you're going to be renting one.

     :eyebrow: :eyebrow:

either find a cheaper host, or scale back what your doing.

if its hobby, then try n work out how it can pay for itself.

if its commerical make a buisness plan.

Trying to find someone to share a dedicated server with won't be the cheapest solution, a virtual server will always be cheaper.

you can have some form of virtual servers where u have root.
    see www.memset.com for an example.

Cheaper? How do you figure? On a shared hosting plan you're paying 2-3 times as much as what the cost would be if we split.

    what are you true needs?
e.g. how much bandwidth, webspace and any other thigs you need.

It might just be me but it seems a bit of a waste buying more than what you need.

Just a guess with out knowing what your requirements are that you need a VPS you have a dedi server but its shared between about 4 customers
