Hey guys and girlies... im looking for someone to make an led vu meter... i cannot make one as i do not have the electronic know how. basically i want a total of 20 leds.. 2x10 each channel (left and right) in the typical colour manner ie red, yellow, green. The vu meter would be used to monitor the output of the computer before it enters into my dj mixer. so i will need a male and female connector.. so i can plug the vu meter into the sound card, and a female to plug my mixer into the dj pc if it makes it any easier im going to be using a sound plaster 24bit and will only be using stereo sound. how easy is this to do?
we were working on it in the digimeter thread over here> http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=59910&page=10 drop a post in there, maby smoguzbenjamin will finally get around to posting the final schematic. If you don't need different frequencies monitored, check out this> http://www.gideontech.com/content/articles/210/1 if you have a credit card to order the little chip, it wouldn't be that hard to do. I'm ordering a tube of 20 sooner or later.
@ djmassiive; yeh my cd mixer and my studio mixer both have vu metres, but im using it purely for cosmetics rather than for proper use @ mobius9: Yeh i did read that a while ago, but im so electronic n00b its beyond believe. I even had problems wiring up a plug. Anyone be able to help me?
think im gunna have to give up then simply because i cant possibly do it myself. and its not as if i can go out and buy one anywhere either... if anyone could help me.. then could they please pm me or even reply here.. i will keep watching this but i obviously wont hold out much hope!! Matt
funkymunky silly question..... why not put a wanted ad in the for-sale forums? maybe someone has one allready or can knock one up for you if they are strapped for cash
the IC's come as a pack of 5 from RS at 1.48 ea (you would only need 2), the LEDs price depends on what you want, 10p-10quid range (each) (I'd advise 70p each for nice bright clear lens LEDs), resistors are pennies, stereo jacks are bout a pound each, How do you want it presented, led's on flyleads so you can put them anywhere? the entire thing built into a box? or bay blank? More importantly how much are you willing to pay for this service? (read: strapped for cash)
"i love it when a plan comes together" (the a-team dude who's name i cant remember) (and yes, i know, im taking credit for coincidence, but who cares )
I was just thinking about it 20x70p for LED's is 14 quid might be an idea to go for cheaper ones. but its dependent on what effect you want. Edit: You are referring to Hannibel (sp?)
righty okay... they wouldnt need to be especially bright because the unit is going to be used in very dim/pitch black light anyway. All the leds would need to be on fly cables as you say. so that i could put them into the custom front.. the unit (i assume pcb) would be laid against a empty 3.5" bay.. would be willing to pay upto 15 quid for the lot? matt
