Not a big shock, the game does not run well under Windows, they are still patching and bug fixing. Game will also not get SLI or CFX support.

This game seems to be a joke for anyone who isn't playing it on XB1 or PS4. Personally, I'm glad they're not releasing a Mac and Linux release, because those platforms don't need any more half-assed ports.

When software runs terribly on a platform, it often reflects the capabilities of the platform (even though it shouldn't always). It's a shame because Linux is fairly capable of playing games but most of the titles that are ported really don't work all that great unless you run a GTX 980Ti. This really isn't helping people move over.

The refund isn't automatic? So they're just hoping to exploit the people that preordered that don't ever get wind that this was cancelled?

I'm hoping that sooner or later Valve will step in. The idea of a major publisher posting pre-orders on Steam and then stiffing the customers when they cancel it is not something they'll want to be seen to condone.

Early Access abandonware is one thing, Triple A abandonware has much more potential for highly visible and expensive PR blowouts.

Well, why are you still preordering games in the first place? There's no scarcity concern with a downloadable title. There is no risk that Valve will "sell out" before you manage to buy your copy. There is no REASON to preorder other than ensure a sale before anyone knows if the game is any good.

If Valve actually cared, they would remove preorders entirely, because the entire POINT of preorders is to screw the customer. .
Instead they let people make a game out of the preorder by tying game content to # of preorders attained, as though the big-budget games are developed by paupers who need your preorder dollars to finish the game.

Note that this excludes Early Access, where it is made clear the game is not completed, and you are paying for a promise that may not materialize.

So far as I can see, the distinction between Early Access and AAA pre-orders is that the former warns you that the game isn't actually finished yet...

AAA releases usually go as follows.

Pre order now to get beta access / early download / shiny skin / overpowered gun / just because!
It's going to be late! Everyone gets the preorder special!
    It's finished!
OK! We thought it worked, but we tested it 3 weeks after release and found some issues.
    We fixed it! YAY!
Guys, the fix might have broken some other bits.
*most people move to another game*
    *game actually reaches decent state*
Hey Guys, we really did make this awesome game. Guys?
