Gently twist them, and they should come right off.

The thermal pads can create a bit of a vacume and 'stick' in place. Just gently twist the block (horizontaly) and warm it up a little :) Took me 20 minutes of softly twisting and warming to remove the heatsink on my 5870.

just had to buy a Torx size 6 star driver to remove the screws from the back of a Evga 580GTX .. I was having kittens sweating over it .. as on one card they blue glued em in .. (turds)

B.P.... did you manage to get them off okay?

i just put the card into the pc, boot it for 1 second, and they're all warm and toasty and fall off quite easily.

EDIT: Or even better, have an intense gaming session before you dissemble the card for a couple of hours, it makes it nigh on instant to come apart!

Both my 580's came apart beautifully. It was installing all the thermal pads that was the pain.

And remembering to take off both sets of protective coverings... I nearly forgot :p

All my 5870 screws where just mini phillips screws.

Ha, yes cutting the pads and peeling off those layers is a LONG process.

I actually prefer the torx screws as you have less chance of stripping them when taking them apart/putting back together (I've never liked phillips screws). Bit annoying if you don't have a torx set though.
