can it be done? why or why not im interested in opening up mine and changin the case... thanks ~tres elva
i tried to move an xbox to a PC case and failed miserably. the power supply from the xbox uses a different voltage standby line than a ATX. another thing about the Xbox is that the dvd drive is very oddly shaped. it has a hump on the bottom that prevents it from going into a single 5 1/2 in. slot. as for watercooling, there is really no reason other than for bragging rights. me and my buddy put multi color leds into his case and they look amazing as they change colors constantly. other than something like that or putting linux onto your box, transplanting is really only for bragging
it can be done and has been done, but i still fail to see the point. i don't think you can overclock the xbox (even if you could, the software wouldn't run properly on it). as for changing the case, like da-gokesta said, there's a few difficulties involved, but if you make a custom case, you shoud be ok
overclocking an xbox is rather pointless for the gains. the only way i know of to do it is to unsolder the cpu and replace it with a celeron 1.4 ghz. the risks of failure and the additional cost for a very slight gain is not worth it to me. to me the only worthwhile thing for an xbox is to put a modchip in and add linux.
one reason would be for the noise...get rid of the fans...and i wasnt planning on using any premade case...we were goin to construct our own....but who knows..these are just thoughts...any ideas?
a small cheap 3/8" kit should do the job quite nicely esp as its just to keep the noise down, something like an asetek kit esp as they have just cut prices [clickme]
have you ever taken apart an xbox? the heatsink is held in place by a single clip. im not sure if you would be able to successfully mount a waterblock on that chip. also, may i ask why you want it quieter? i never notice any noise from them as you are gaming as you have it on.
3/8" sounds way over the top. Remember this is a mid-range you could cool it with an Aquarius kit and still have headroom. If noise is your only issue what not just mod it to have a 92mm fan blowing down on the chipset and cpu heatsinks?
ok then 1/4" then i just took a guess at the size of the kits... 1/2" peep here anyway altho the big fan sounds like a plan too
i agree that i still think wc'ing an xbox is pointless. i really don't hear noise seeing as how the games i'm playing (or movies i'm watching) tend to cover up the small amount of noise made by the xbox's fans. IMO, it's spending a lot of money on something that's not worth it. just get some bigger fans that run pretty quiet and save yourself the extra money for xmas presents or something...
