No, not required...but recomended, they make like a 10c difference

2.clamps for the tube connections, useful they are?
well, eather use clamps or zip ties...'cause if you don't it's way more likley the tubeing falls off...

3.mixing water blocks, im going for asetek, but im getting a danger den cpu block, all copper and lucite
As long as you use distilled water and something like zurex, you shouldn't get currosion...

    4. reseviors, any cool looking ones i can get in the states? same with pumps?
Dunno...I just got a Danger Den bay res and I got a PolarFLO pump which looks pretty sweet...

regarding clamps, i used those thin PTE tapes. cos my cpu block is LRDW whatever its called. and the barb came with it isnt decent. so clamp it made it leak, and the death of my 9800 was due to that :( i was very angry.

careful with clamps indeed. i would strongly recommend wrap a couple layers of those tapes to seal off any gaps.

emm you sure about that? That seems a rather high figure. They do help but that seems a rather excessive difference.

Is it an Asetek kit your using? If so what type of connectors does it use as iirc they normally come with pushfits while the DD probably uses barbs. Is the Asetek kit 10mm or 1/2" as you need to ensure its compatible with the DD block.

I think you need to do a bit more reading. :thumb:

That is a rather large difference in temperature. Where did you pluck that figure from?? :eyebrow:

    Yes. Less noise, more cooling.

Close your eyes. Clear your mind. Your mind is like a blank slate... like a peaceful lake. Not a breeze disturbs it. Not a single ripple over it's mirror-like, smooth surface. Now imagine your PC. Imagine several thousand bucks of precious hardware. Imagine tubing winding its way amongst it, carrying soothing coolant to hot and laboured silicon. Now imagine a tube becoming undone, leaking. Imagine water spilling over the inside of your precious hardware and shorting out everything in a cataclysmic storm of sparks. Now ask me that question again.

Mix your blocks, but don't mix barb diameters. All blocks should have the same diameter barbs.

Yes. I refer you to the sticky at the top of this forum. Check out the US site addresses. ;)

You bolt the shroud to the radiator and the fan to the shroud. Simple as that.

noticed a few people have had mixed results from shrouds, but more likely or not they'll improve things.

Only reason I'm re-itterating (spelling?) the words of the wise is that some rads have a shroud bit already.... the fan mountings on a black ice extreme is 10mm-ish away from the rad already.

Ach, I'd go for one if there's space anyhow

Incorrect; 3mm exactly, which is negligable. A good shroud should be at least one inch deep.

Some radiators come with shrouds, i imagine a BIX3 does. You can always make/ buy another one for it like you do with heatercores for better performance; Nexxo made one for his BIX on his thread, check it out.

Make sure the seals between the fan/shroud and rad is good. Don't want all that lovely air pressure blowing out the sides now do we :D

Less dead space from the fan motor so that more air passes over the center of the fins...in a nut shell...
