I had planned out this particular tubing pathway but as it was rendering it kinda dawned on me that I don't think the EK XRes supports this configuration. But I might be able to find something that will.
I think I may have found a system that will work. Thanks to youtuber singularity computers for this one. Swiftech MCP 655 bare with pwm. Bitspower D5 pump top Bitspower pump top upgrade kit 150ml Bitspower 2/3 port reservoir cap. This will allow me to run the loop as displayed in the above rendering only the drain port will be on the opposite side of the outlet that goes up to the graphics card. Now I need to re-think the tubing from the 240 to the 140 rad as I'm not using rigid tubing so it will sag if I do it like that. EDIT: This things going to be quite the mutt. EK blocks, 1 koolance radiator, 1 HW Labs radiator, bits power pump parts and fittings, swiftech pump. Would have bought the 240 Koolance radiator at least but it was out of stock on their website and I couldn't find it on FrozenCPU.
OK guys. I've decided I'm going to go with the EK-SBAY res pump combo. I know it's not perfect, but in order to get the build done with a reasonable amount of time and cost, it's the only way to go right now. If I were doing an ATX build it would be different, but this is how it is I guess. To fit all of the bitspower stuff I listed above, I would have to basically throw out the 150ml tube res because it's too damn tall (it'll fit in the case, but the cap would be above the ports on the front rad) and go out of my way to buy another, smaller tube res to attach to the pump top. The EK X-RES is too bulky and it would block cables. Even if I could fit it, it would be really cramming it in there and almost impossible to work with. Additionally, any tube res/pump configuration would require anywhere from 4-6 additional fittings to get the clean tubing runs I would need End of the day, I'm looking at ~$300 to get the bitspower setup I described in my post above. On the other hand, the EK SBAY only costs $165 and it solved all of my problems with cables, space, and tubing runs. I figured I would come back around to the bay res, but I'm glad I at least explored the options because I actually learned a lot about the huge variety of pump configurations that are possible.
Well some good news! My Black Ice GTS 240 came in today and it fits! This is the "Stealth" version, with a thickness of 29.6mm. Bonus good news! I test fitted it and it does in fact fit even with my Corsair SP120 fans attached! I thought they were too big, but turns out they fit like a charm.
yay! good for you! my custom darkside starter kit is on its way as well and i got a few pretty bitfenix fans, blood red tubings and white LED strips on a separate delivery. with any luck, i'll have mine setup by mid-August. yes... mid-August. since im moving to a new place next week lol... mine's not touching the VGA tho... just CPU. and yes, also built-in res/pump combo. my kit: https://www.dazmode.com/store/produ...tank-reservoir-complete-watercoling-kit_rev3/
I'm just going to have a XSPC EX240mm rad with an EK-DCP 2.2 & Res combo.. Couple that with the black monsoon fittings, Alphacool CPU block, tubing and drain valve i'm getting from Spreadie and that'll be my simple loop! Untill I decide to get clear tubing and pastels coolant.. Maybe a 750Ti EK Waterblock Although it's silent even when i'm gaming atm!
i'll be painting my fittings. pre-painted ones too expensive lol.... also, i heard dye additive isn't good for your loop. better to have colored tubes. food for thought.
Hmm.. I was going to use Mayhems Pastel stuff, as loads of people have used it without problems! But it'd be cheaper to get orange tint tubing..
I've been following the YouTube user SingularityComputers and he uses mayhems and addressed those concerns. He claims to have used mayhems pastels for years and has never had a problem. He seems very knowledgeable so I'll take his word for it.
man, this thread is so helpful already... now if only you could start adding some measurements for custom cabling
I've been on the hunt for some short cables. Don't want to do custom cables. Sent from Bittech Android app
Hear ye, hear ye, let it be known that the original post has been updated with a more or less final build list!
Well I guess this is a little easier than modelling for hours on end. This is a paper cutout of the space the EK X-Res Top will take up. About 80mm square. Looks like it will fit but NOT with the front rad. Why is this significant? Because I got in touch with the guy at www.hexagonpc.com who built the Blue Lagoon PC you see there and he said he gets awesome temps with just a single 240 radiator! About 64c CPU and 45c GPU. Now that kind of clues me in to the fact that i will be able to run a single rad and STILL use the EK X-Res like I had originally designed. Now that's kind of a double edged sword because I already bought this spiffy 140mm Radiator, but there's always the possibility for expansion at a later time so I suppose it wouldn't hurt to stick it in a drawer to use next time around. Decisions decisions Soon
Hey everyone I just wanted to let anyone checking this thread know that I have not stopped the build! I still have some more stuff to buy but I've been slowing building up my collection of fittings These are Bitspower Black Sparkle fittings. So close to being done!
Hey all. I have some true-blue build progress pictures to post! This gallery isn't necessarily in order, but you get the idea. I did this a couple of days ago in order to finalize my fitting and tubing layouts and to determine if all of the stuff I've been drafting for the last 6 months actually fits. It does! I did have to order 4 triple rotary fittings to make things easier and my fitting layout is going to be a little complex but it's gonna work. I managed to make a dual radiator setup in this case fit! A single 140 and a 240. All that's left for the build is to flush the radiators, get the tubing ready, buy the coolant, screw everything in permanently, run the lines, fill and enjoy! Oh and excuse the grungy workbench. I think the previous owner was really into paint.... http://minus.com/m31B78aHS1EV0
