In my biology class, we were assigned to set up and experiment for our final research project and, being the "overclocker" that I am, I decided to tie this in with my water cooling dreams. Seeing as my parents think that this water cooling thing is stupid and pointless, I decided to inter-twine it with my science project so that my parents could pay for all the parts, ehehe.

I'm going to set up and experiment to see how the different variables of such a cooling tower affect the temperatures and the amount of bacteria in the water. For now, all I know is that I'm going to be building a cooling tower, but I need some suggestions on how I should go about doing this.

Oh and one more thing, my dad is a CNC Machinist so I have access to many tools in his shop, so don't hold back your imagination on this one!

Thanks for the help guys, I'll read those german sites, they seem to have some awesome pictures. I was just wondering what to do about the water block, should I buy a Maze3, or make my own?

The million dollar question (no not what is a potty) over weather to build a water block. There are a lot of great examples out there of peeps who have built some great blocks.

Should wet your appitite for ideas and if you have the confidence / access to equipment then the satisfaction can be great.

Buying one is a lot easier and with something like the maze3 you know it has been tested, will fit and work.

Read a bit, think a bit and if you need advice, someone here will be happy to help.

Thanks for the help so far, but for the most part, I think that the only solid choice I have right know would be the pump. I'm thinking of getting the infamous Eheim 1025. Will this be a good pump for my water cooling adventures?

I would go for the eheim 1048 which kicks out 600litre per hour or the 1250 that like mine that runs 1200litres per hour. If you are going for a straight system with no tec or chipset, gpu coolers then the 1048 should do. If you are going to be running multiple blocks or supercooling ( or like posing with big figures ) then the slightly beafier 1250 is a good idea.

Or you could get the 1060 :).
My tower cooler (the marshmallow due to masses of poly foam) has now been condemned to catch drips falling from the roof in the garage LOL :).
PVC tubing in the UK is hella expensive, actually cost you less to ship from mcmaster (www.mcmaster.com). So i went for the good ol DIY job and went and got a couple of bins and turned em on top of each other for the chamber, and a small bin for the res/top-up section. Insu foam does great for dampeneing the noise out. Showerhead, dont actually need to buy one :).
Get a lemonade bottle (2litre), and the front of a cd case, top from the bottle aswell.
Cut the top off the bottle, glue it to the cd lid with the top pointing out, then just take a decent size needle and a candle and burn away. I tried drilling prior to that but limescale built up due to the rough left by the cuts and i made a new one. Just put a bard or fitting of your choice in the top, seal the top and fitting, done.
The thinner the diameter of whatever your using the less noise, also try and get something of a thickish plastic, might get rid of some poly foam or all of it that way.
Oh, and dont forget your biocides either.
Best ones to use generally are the de-humidifer bio-cides but i found a teaspoon of bleach once a week did the trick.

Thinks thats all my tips, oh apart from make sure you use plumbers goop instead of silicon based sealants, permanent set but it doesnt peel away ever like siicon frequently does.

ive said it once ill say it again....bong cooling is awesome....for the first 6 months, then its just a pain in the arse....cleaing filling, cleaning filling, cleaning filling....over and over and over and over and over and over and over...less trouble to buy some tecs, good power supply, and a radiator...
