Thought I might try and pick your brains! My Nokia 7650 has suffered some water damage that the repair company said made it uneconomical to repair. does anybody know if water damage is this fatal or if I might stand a chance ot resurecting it.

it depends.. normally if the water is clean there is no problem if you dry it properly.. but if salt or dirty water have gotten in there it is most likely fried..

Well it was rain water so I should think that counts as dirty. Well might as well try and flog it on eBay, if a 2p piece can get £41 then a broken phone must get something!

Basically if anything goes wrong as a result of water with a phone then it's usually bu><0red. If it was just something like the sound went distorted then it MAY be cheaper to get it repaired, but if it's a more serious problem then it's likely to be a chip that's gone which as they said, it isn't economical to repair.

Chips are what usually goes if anything since they're the most sensitive. I have to say it's pretty unlucky for rain to have damaged it (unless you dropped it in a puddle :p).

    It was very heavy rain!!!

I have got it to turn on again by leavering the power button off and jamming a screwdriver in there, but none of the keypad buttons work :miffed:

But I can at least use the phone to make calls :D

In that case something's probably fried. It really depends on how it's all setup inside though. In a perfect world the whole keypad with it's controller chip would be on a seperate board and they'd be for sale on ebay for a few quid :) It's doubtful though.

It doesn't look like I can just take it apart to help it dry out either since I cannot see how it all comes apart. There also some weird screws that have kind of an 8 point star on them and I don't have anything to undo them.

rain is not "dirty" because when the water evaporates into the atmosphere most of the soluable things are left behind. And of course as we know pure water doesnt conduct, anyway... everything should be okay jsut let it dry

I think you will need a T6 screwdriver if i remember correctly, which isnt so likely :p but check it out

Yep, a T6 "Torx" screwdriver. Pretty standard for most mobile phones. Get them on ebay for a few quid.

My sister dropped her GSM in water yesterday and I just screwed it open and it's working again now.
A year ago my GSM fell into a river (don't ask ;)) and I just let it dry and everything worked.
Both of them are Nokia 3210, hail the robust 3210 :).

Hell yeah, my gf dropped hers down her stairs 4 times and it never broke. And when I say stairs I mean 2 flights in a BIG house, roughly 3 flights of your average house's stairs with a wooden floor at the bottom. She really punishes her phones. Managed to break an 8310 (not really that hard to do admittedly) and an Ericsson T68. Apart from her new one, the 3210 is the only phone she's had that survived.

Well I'm about to fix an 8310 that was dropped in a pint of beer. Then bacteria/mold grew and some of the keys don't work properly. The Phone techs said it couldn't be repaired, but i'm pretty confident that some cotton buds and some isopropyl alcohol will do the trick.

The only expense was getting some tiny Torx bits for my screw driver.

Well once the screwdriver I have ordered and the special opening tool arrive I will try and sort mine out.

BEing a Nokia 7650 you need a tool to take it apart or sites I have read say it is very easy to break beyond repair!

I've repaired coffeed keyboards with a strip-down, good rinse under the tap followed by liberal washing with meths. Hair-drier, leave overnight, good as noo. :D
